Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • When I was young, Bernard frightened me. He was an imposing man, he spoke very softly and he usually had a serious look on his face when he spoke. I was not used to this and Bernard was not used to dealing with little girls. He was wonderful with my brother, though. Many times I would be jealous because Roger and my father were out on a fishing trip with Bernard. I did not like fishing, but I enjoyed Bernard’s cooking – he was a master chef when it came to frying fish. And both my brother and I have happy memories of visiting Grandmère Comte and Bernard and our visits always included a trip to Bernard’s pig farm! Bernard loved learning new things – canning fruit (especially raspberries from Grandmère’s garden!), yoga in his 60s, how to tap the trees in his backyard for syrup – it takes a lot of work to make 1 gallon of syrup! And who could forget Bernard’s tomatoes . . . or his wine? I was fortunate enough to be a beneficiary of his generosity, often returning home with a box of tomatoes and a bottle of dandelion wine. And how many of us began our visits with Bernard by sampling some of his homemade “saucisse” or perhaps a chocolate bar from the fridge which he kept in his living room? Bernard loved us children, and his face lit up when he spoke of our achievements. His bookshelf contained many photos of “his” children and he had stories that went along with each and every one of them. Bernard was a man who worked hard, and knew the value of working for what you loved. He loved all of us and put a lot of effort into making sure we knew it. I am sure you will all remember him with as much love as I do. - Posted by: Michelle Soulodre (Great-Niece) on: Nov 13, 2012

  • Gilbert, Kim & Jason - Our deepest sympathy to you all and Barnie's family. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you at this most difficult time. We pray that you will hold close to your hearts all your love and memories of Barnie and that those memories will help you during your grieving time and beyond. Jason was (is) so special to his "Pape" and I know that "Pepe" was so very special to Jason also. They had a very special bond between the two of them. A special man has left this world only to watch over you all. - Posted by: Mark, Heather Pearce & Family (Family of Gilbert, Kim & Jason) on: Nov 13, 2012
