Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFREDA GILLMAN The family of Freda Gillman sadly announces her passing October 31, 2012. Born in Winnipeg August 8, 1922 to Sarah and Louis Omnitsky, Freda grew up spending time in her father's Kosher butcher shop and learning to be a wonderful cook in her mother's kitchen. Freda was married for over 50 years to her high school sweetheart, Leonard Gillman, who predeceased her in 1999. Freda celebrated her 90th birthday this year surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, most of whom travelled from out of town to be with Gramma . Freda was an extremely loving and devoted grandparent putting her grandchildren's needs before hers, always. She was adored by her cousins, nieces and nephews who all have warm memories and great stories about Aunty Freda. Family was very important and having extended family around her dinner table was something Freda cherished; she kept in touch and ensured that time was spent together and that everyone knew how much she cared. Freda loved fashion and after a short time selling real estate she sold wigs and then fine women's clothing at a Winnipeg boutique. She loved dressing people and was passionate about her work. Freda is survived by her daughters Gerry Miles, Pam Gillman and husband Walter Sutherland, grandchildren Jamey Miles and husband Mike Blouin, Casey Miles and wife Tali, Laney Sutherland and great-grandchildren Jordan, Alix, Ella, Micah and Natalie. She will be missed by family and by her best friend Gertie Schwartz who in the last few years devoted herself to providing extra support and TLC to her friend. Thanks and gratitude to the staff on 4 South, Victoria General Hospital who treated Freda with the care and respect deserved by an elder. A graveside service took place at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery, November 2, 2012. If desired donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway.
