ALBERT ERNEST OLUND
Date of Passing: Nov 25, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALBERT ERNEST OLUND February 14, 1940 November 24, 2012 It is with heavy hearts, but with lots of memories of laughter and good times, that the family of Albert informs all our friends of his peaceful passing at Tuxedo Villa, with his family by his side, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Left to celebrate his life is Joan, his wife of 47 years, children Glenn and Lisa (Ken Hanley), granddaughter Jill, and step-granddaughters Courtney and Caitlin Hanley. Supporting Joan are sister Margaret Talintyre, as well as Deb and Dave Scott and family, Jeff and Nicole Fox and family, Mark Talintyre, Nigel and Marieta Talintyre, and the amazing friends who have been by Joan's side since Albert's diagnosis. Albert was predeceased by his parents Everett and Jessie Olund, in-laws Edward and Hannah Wanless, sister and brother-in-law Arthur and Cathey Fox, brother-in-law Terry Talintyre, and son-in-law Kyle Grabowksi. Alberta was born and raised on the family farm in Starbuck, MB, in 1940. Upon meeting, and then a short time later marrying, Joan, they settled at the farm and began their life as a farming couple. Along the way, Albert, Joan and their farm menagerie expanded to include cows, chickens, horses, geese and any other animal that wandered into the yard. After 33 years, Albert and Joan retired from farming, and found their way to their next adventure, trading Starbuck and the tractor for ice cream and Clear Lake National Park, to run Cones n' Things for the next 11 years. Trading one summer profession for another allowed Albert and Joan to focus on their favourite winter activity: going to Texas! Albert was very involved in his community, representing Starbuck as a Councilor in the RM of McDonald for 13 years, and sitting on the Boards of the Starbuck Credit Union, and Starbuck Recreation. One of his proudest accomplishments was seeing the current Starbuck Rink and the ongoing success it has seen since it was built in 1970s. Albert's family will be eternally grateful to staff and families at Tuxedo Villa for their exceptional and compassionate care of Albert, as well as the support and kindness they have shown Joan during Albert's time there. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed for the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. A service celebrating Albert's life will be held Wednesday, November 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home and Reception Centre located at 4000 Portage Ave. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Joan, Lisa, Glenn, and all the extended family, I never got to know Albert as well as the Davisons, but from the little time I spent with him, I always remember a down to earth man with a great sense of humour. He was so full of life to be taken by this terrible disease, when he should have had so many years left. May your many warm memories, and friends and family help you through your time of grief. - Posted by: Glen Martin (Friend) on: Nov 27, 2012
