Condolences & Memories (14 entries)

  • I miss Marni. And think of her often. So many memories from my years in Winnipeg. Hanging out. Laughing. I can still hear her say ‘Sue babes!’ in that great gravelly voice of hers. She was one of a kind and she has a special place in my heart. - Posted by: Susan Marjetti (Friend) on: Dec 13, 2020

  • I'm saddened to hear of Marni's death. We were friends in the late 70s, and our lives touched now and then afterwards. I remember her humour, wit and intelligence, and I'm truly sorry to hear she has gone. My sympathy goes out to her family and friends. - Posted by: Val Innes (friend from the past) on: Jan 01, 2013

  • Like many, we were saddened and shocked to learn of Marni's passing. Our life paths crossed briefly this summer when Marni visited Penny at Deer Lodge Hospital. Edith was in the bed next to Penny, and was immediately embraced, and loved, by the Kalef family. I vividly remember Marni as a fiery spirit who would not allow Edith to sit back, but would encourage her to take part in hospital activities. My mother and I are long time friends of Edith and we were touched by Marni's empathy and giving nature. Being faith based, I strongly believe the spirit lives on and Marni's flame burns brightly in another sphere. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. • I am so shocked and saddened to learn of Marni's untimely passing. We were very close friends (and neighbours) in high school and at university. While we lost touch more than 30 years ago, I have very fond memories of her -- her wit, her humour, and her creative intelligence. My heartfelt condolences go out to her family and loved ones. - Posted by: Sandra Morton Weizman (née Sandi Morton), now of Calgary (old friend from the past) on: Dec 15, 2012

  • I am so sorry I missed the celebration of Marni's life and contributions. It was my good fortune to get to know Marni early in my political career and to be influenced by her chutzpah and joie de vivre. Marni taught me about the importance of community activism and about being true to one's self and one's values. May it help you to know that Marni's spirit endures in all those whose lives she touched. - Posted by: Judy Wasylycia-Leis (friend) on: Dec 10, 2012

  • Marni was a very special student and she grew up to be a special person. We will all miss her generosity and her zany sense of humour. The world needs more people like Marni, - Posted by: Linda McDowell (a former teacher of Marni) on: Dec 10, 2012

  • Simply by fluke I came across Marnie's obituary and I am shocked and very sad. Watching her and Susan grow up at the Big Whiteshell was so much a part of my childhood as well. My sincere thoughts and prayers are with you. Adele Deegan & Audrey Hawkins - Posted by: Adele Deegan (Former neighbour.) on: Dec 09, 2012

  • I am very sad and shocked to learn of Marni's passing. I first met her at Camp Massad when I was 12 or 13. We saw each other during our BBYO years and in university we had a once a week badminton date. My sincere condolences to her family. - Posted by: Likey Segal (née Shklarsky) (Friend from way back) on: Dec 05, 2012

  • Just want to say my prayers are with you Penny and Gerry, and the rest of the family! I was devastated when I heard the news about Marnie, did not really know her but I know her sister Susan. It doesn't really matter, a wonderful human being has been taken from you, to lose a child is something I know too well. Again try and stay strong, you have a lot on your plate.
