Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I was shocked to have just heard of Ron's sudden passing. It was a joy to work with Ron; he had a very calm and gentle style with others, and little seemed to unsettle him. (An invaluable temprement given many of the situations that his job required him to handle...resolve...referee!) There was a period where Ron and I would play squash about once per week - he apparently developed a real passion for the sport while living in Australia! Ron never ceased to surprise. My sincere condolences to Margaret, Kathleen and Michael. - Posted by: Bill Palamar (worked with Ron at Scouts Canada) on: Dec 22, 2012

  • Ron's passing was quite a shock. He was a wonderful family friend, who enriched our lives and was like an uncle to me. I will never forget his calm manner, humour and kindness. Ron was well respected and liked by everyone in scouting. Notice of Ron's passing was posting on a camp alumni website and this is what some of the people who worked with him had to say: Paul Cunliffe - very sad ....thanks for sharing ...he was a good man Gordon WD Fleming - Weird. I told a story about Marg to a few other HSR alum just last Saturday. Ron was indeed a good man, as Paul (who was a fellow '84 IT) has already observed Bruce Coursolle - Sad news.. a kind and patient man. Patrick Boyle - He was a good man. Remember having to go to clear up my visa with him one summer, it was a long trip for a 5 min. meeting. Mark Purcell - He was a very good man. It was a priviledge to work with him both at camp & on staff in Toronto. He will be missed Sandy Stenhouse - I had the honour of being on staff for the four years that Ron was the director. He was one hell of a good man and was liekd and respected by the entire staff. I remember that the junior staff got into the habit of having late night swims at the H-dock, clearly in violation of the curfew. One night we were too noisy and Ron came down to see what was going on. When he saw what we were doing he essentially said "Don't let the campers hear you." His passing is a loss to all who knew him. Mark Purcell Thanks Sandy, you just brought back that memory for me. I had forgotten that he had done that. We were all so afraid that we would be in trouble but he recognized that we were having fun & not hurting anyone and didn't make a big deal of it. Derek McGowan - Great man with a big heart. He will be missed ... Bill Shields - RIP Ron...a kind and gentle man...he will be missed.. .. Bob Penrose - He was a good man. My condolences to Marg, Kathleen and Michael, Ron will be sadly missed. - Posted by: Jeff Lake (Friend) on: Dec 21, 2012

  • I was shocked to hear of Ron's passing yesterday as I listened to the morning show on CJNU RADIO here in WPG. Ron was my engineer, producer whenever I did the 60's Rock Show, Sat. Nite Sock Hop on CKVN & later full time CHNR. We had such wonderful times together as we both lived the 50's & 60's Rock era of AM Radio. He was a terrific person in the studio and away from it. Ron made my on air presence so professional every time we performed, it was uncanny to say the least. I will miss him dearly. Our deepest and Heart felt sympathy is extended to the Rochester Families. Bryan & Heather Jensen - Posted by: Bryan Jensen (WE DID RADIO SHOWS TOGETHER AT TWO STATIONS IN wPG..) on: Dec 13, 2012

  • Such a dreadful shock to hear about Ron's passing. As a fellow member of the Down Under Club of Winnipeg, I always appreciated Ron's humour and enthusiasm, and the interesting projects that he shared with us every now and then. Condolences to Margaret and the entire Rochester family, as well as other friends of Ron's. He will be sadly missed by all who came in contact with him. Rest easy, friend. - Posted by: Jenny Gates (friend) on: Dec 13, 2012
