MAY PICKARSKY It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of May Pickarsky, on December 31, 2012. May will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Helen Gitter, grandchildren Ashley Gitter and wife Sherri (Winnipeg), Linda Walter and husband Ran (Toronto), great-grandchildren Lauren and Lexi Walter, as well as extended family and friends. May was predeceased by her beloved husband Israel Pickarsky in 1977 and by her cherished sisters, Goldie Karawan and Bernice Klein. May was born on November 18, 1912 in Busk, Poland and immigrated to Winnipeg, MB as a child with her family. As an adult, May married Israel "Izzy" Pickarsky and together they took great pride in creating a warm home, and raising their daughter Helen. May later went on to raise her grandchildren Ashley and Linda in her home, with the same love and devotion. Throughout the years, May would fondly tell stories about working at Gunn's Bakery as a young woman and of the kindness shown to her by Morris and Florence Gunn. May and Izzy later went on to open their own business, Peerless Grocery in Winnipeg's North End where she worked until her retirement. May was particularly close with her grandson, Ashley, of whom she was very proud. Ashley and "Baba" spent many hours talking and telling stories, taking drives through Kildonan Park and eating ice cream cones. Baba resided with Ashley and his wife in their home in her final months where she found comfort and peace in having Ashley by her side. May's funeral, officiated by Cantor Anibal Mass, was held on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Chesed Shel Emes with interment at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. May's family would like to thank Danny and Sandy Payment for their love and support, Doctors Oscar and Sheila Domke for their many years of wonderful care, Dr. George and staff at the Grace Hospital, the staff of W.R.H.A. Home Care, Cantor Anibal Mass of Congregation Shaarey Zedek and our gratitude for the support of our friends at Temple Shalom. MAY PICKARSKY November 18, 1912 - December 31, 2012 May Pickarsky passed away on December 3, 2012. She is predeceased by her husband Israel Pickarsky. The service will be held January 3, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Chesed Shel Emes, 1023 Main Street. The Shivah will be observed at the home of Sherri and Ashley Gitter. A full obituary to follow.
