LORRAINE HEATHER SPELMER
Born: Jun 07, 1944
Date of Passing: Jan 04, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLORRAINE HEATHER SPELMER Lorraine Spelmer, 68, of Toronto, ON passed away suddenly on January 4, 2013 at her winter home in Fort Myers, FL. She was born in Winnipeg on June 7, 1944. She lived in New Jersey from 1985 to 1990 when she moved to Toronto. Lorraine chose not to work outside the home instead dedicating herself to raising her family, a job that she dearly loved and did so well. Lorraine met her husband Bill in high school when they were 15. They married two years later at 17 and recently celebrated a full and loving marriage of 51 years. Lorraine was the love of Bill's life, his soul mate, and he will miss her every minute of every day. Today her passing feels like a crime of the soul that breaks the heart and destroys the spirit but this too will pass. She loved life and loved people and brought joy and smiles to everyone in her life. She was always the first person to recognize someone's needs and to offer support; her gracious and giving nature had her thinking of others before herself. Lorraine was a master chef, had a black belt in shopping and a positive energy that was contagious; she was affectionately called the energizer bunny . She was predeceased by her daughter Kim (2010), her father George Porth (1999), her mother Mildred (1977) and her sister Beverley (1976). Lorraine leaves to cherish her memory the other loves of her life, son Jason, his wife Elaine and her precious granddaughters Lauren and twins, Chloe and Ava. Also left to mourn are mother-in-law Anne Spelmer, Jo-Anne Macey and Jack, Rodger Spelmer and Jo-Ann as well as nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and many dear friends. The family will be gathering in Winnipeg on January 20 for a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation in Lorraine's name to the Canadian Heart Foundation.

Bill very sad to see this I can unfortunately relate to your grief as my wife also passed on 7-17-2017. Nearly impossible to reinvent yourself after all the years together. I can't express what values you gave me while working together and learning from you. I'm glad to see Jason has his own Chrysler store and I'm sure you had a lot of involvement. I hope this message finds you well believe it or not I'm almost 66 and still kicking but had many health issues. God bless you and your family. Sincerely, John Mcfall - Posted by: John Mcfall (Former co-worker with Bill) on: Jun 04, 2019

Lorraine's friendship is so treasured! We met in grade school and our friendship spanned more than 60 years. Our travels with the "girls" created so many wonderful memories. We admired Lorraine's expertise as a master shopper and we learned our lessons well! In New Jersey, she taught us how to catalogue shoes by showing us a closet full of labeled boxes stacked in categories of wear. Lorraine's organizational skills were amazing! The happy times on our cruise together and visiting in Florida last winter are memories that I will always cherish. Lorraine's love of life, family and friends demonstrated what was really important. Her infectious laugh, twinkling eyes, and beautiful soul will never be forgotten. Both Ken and I send our love and heartfelt sympathy to Bill and the family. Lorraine's legacy of love will live on in them, especially her beloved Lauren, Ava and Chloe. Farewell dear friend. . . until we meet again! - Posted by: Linda Boughton (One of the "girls") on: Jan 17, 2013

I have known Lorraine for many years and remember the first time we met at their house in North Kildonan. She had such a presence. I knew I liked her right away. She became a good friend, was a rock when you needed her, and the go to Mom for our kids when they were in elementary school. In fact, Shawna reminded me of the time Lorraine needed to pick her up from school and what a great day she enjoyed being taken care of by Lorraine. Even when you were sick Lorraine could make you feel better. Her shopping was such a passion and I know how much she loved it. Black belt indeed. She liked to shop for herself, of course, but she also loved it when you bought something, too. "You should buy that, Bettie. It is perfect". So I am going to go out and buy myself something new, probably a pair of shoes and when I wear them I will walk with a little extra kick in my step and think about how pleased Lorraine would have been. I will miss her but thank goodness I have such good memories. To Bill, Jason, Elaine and girls, and your extended families, I am thinking of you and my heart goes out to all of you. - Posted by: Bettie Merrell (Friend) on: Jan 15, 2013

Dear Bill, so very sorry for your and your family's loss. I was shocked and saddened when I got the news of Lorraine's passing. I often remember our childhood times on Tweed Ave. Her Mom used to have the best birthday parties on the street. My condolences to you and your family, - Posted by: Elizabeth (Betty) White nee Younka (Childhood and school friend) on: Jan 12, 2013
