DENNIS ROBERT CHESLOCK 1947 - 2013 Dennis decided to leave us after a short battle with cancer on January 8, 2013 at St. Boniface Palliative Care. With heavy hearts the family wants you to know he had a peaceful journey and the time he spent with his love Carol and his family and friends that came up to pay their respects to him - his eyes lit up everytime a friend entered the room. He also enjoyed the nocturnal visits from Manfred - they meant the world to him. Dennis was predeceased by his parents Michael and Stephanie Cheslock. He leaves to mourn his son Robert; his brothers Jerry (Vi), Andy (Carol); his sister Jane (Barry), numerous cousins, Carol and her family and his Paragon family. Dennis was born in Winnipeg on May 22, 1947. His people training came from working in the family store in Elmwood. This love of people carried on into his adult life. As he started his career his mind was always focused on people. He started off in sales, which led him to opening a scrap yard on Springfield Road in 1975 - Den Ches Enterprises. Dennis started his first business as an automobile scrap dealer. Along with this he wanted to help kids so he set up that for every car that was brought in, a portion went to the St. Boniface Pediatric Ward called Scrap for Kids. He then expanded into heavy equipment and I now know when he developed his love of painting. His loaders, etc. were all yellow and his trucks were red. Dennis and M and H Rentals became partners in snow in 1978 and continued for two seasons. He then took a detour to British Columbia to build roads. Dennis was always thinking of ways to push forward. In 1982 construction was suffering and Dennis and a co-founder decided to establish an association which consisted of 12 businessmen, the name of the organization was Heavy Equipment Rental Association of Manitoba. The name got shortened to HAREM (of which Dennis may have had a part in) and today is known as HEAT with 186 members. During the next few years he had several other business ventures which included a larger scrap collection business. In addition he imported from the United States - oil, tires, batteries which was cut short when the premium no name oil became more prevalent and looked similar to a brand name barrel. The 1990s took him into heavy equipment sales and auctions as well as trailer sales at Arnies Welding. Dennis joined Paragon in 2001 where he took on various responsibilities. After Manfred's brother and father passed away in 2004 Dennis took over the role of shop, dispatch and purchasing. He was Manfred's number one confidante. Dennis made sure to look after things to take stress off Manfred. He will be missed very much. Dennis was a unique person with a big heart and wanted everyone to know how much he loved his Paragon family. A special thank you to Dr. Tim Hiebert and the wonderful nursing staff at St. Boniface Palliative Care. In memory of Dennis donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba. E. J. Coutu Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
