GRAYCE ELIZABETH HUTCHISON (nee SAUNDERS) August 14, 1932 - January 16, 2013 It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Grayce Elizabeth Hutchison. Grayce was granted her angel wings at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 16, 2013. She is survived by her husband, Donald James Hutchison; daughter Jill Herman (Dwayne), son Jamie Hutchison (Jodi), daughter Andrea Hutchison (Madison), grandchildren Joshua and Jaden Hutchison, sisters May Town (Robert), Laura Martin (Don), numerous nieces and nephews, and her dear friends. Grayce was predeceased by mother Lorna Fries (nee Hull), father Joseph Saunders, brothers Cecil Saunders, Joseph Saunders, Robert Saunders (Mert), William Saunders, and nephew Gary Saunders (Carol). Grayce was born August 14, 1932, at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, MB. She grew up in Winnipeg and worked for numerous companies including Air Canada, the T. Eaton's Company, and Manitoba Telephone. After Grayce's marriage to Donald, she became an active member of the communities in Gimli, MB, Chattam, NB, Grostenquin, FR, Bagotville, QC, North Bay, ON, Great Falls, MT, Barrington Passage, NS, and finally Winnipeg. Grayce was first and foremost a loving wife and mother. Her support and devotion was felt by everyone who met and knew her. She lived the adage of putting others before herself with her kind, generous and caring nature. She was unwavering in her devotion to the United Church and causes from Reconciliation to helping those less fortunate. She was a blessing and a bright light to her husband and children and the very heart and soul of her family. Grayce's life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quality of time which one lives. Grayce's example taught others to truly savour the precious moments that life has to offer. She recognized that all of them are snapshots in time that we hold forever in our hearts. In accordance with Grayce's wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 25 at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd., Reverend Dr. Wilson and Reverend Kury will officiate. In appreciation for Grayce's love of gardening and the outdoors, interment will take place in the spring. Special thanks to all of the staff at Mercy Hospital, the Iowa Donor Network and Meyer Brothers Funeral Home and the Comfort Inn in Sioux City, Iowa. Contributions in memory of Grayce may be made to 1 Hope Winnipeg, c/o 1622-B St. Mary's Road, Winnipeg, MB R2M 3W7.

Condolences & Memories (15 entries)

  • I was blessed to know Mrs. H from time I spent in North Bay. Jill and I became friends and when I would go to their home Mrs H always made me feel like part if the family. I got my first taste of eggnog at her home, and no I still don’t care for it. I lost contact with the family when I returned to the United States. But the entire Hutchison family have always held a special place in my heart. Love and prayers to them all. - Posted by: Melinda Webb Bear (Friend) on: Aug 11, 2025

  • Though I only had the pleasure of meeting Grayce twice, she left a distinct impression upon me and I was quite drawn to her. She was lit from within and it was infectious. She loved life, adored her family and wanted to experience everything great thing. As Holly's lifelong friend, she would tell me how since Jodi married Jamie, Grayce and Don took Holly in as their own as well. Holly would tell me how very touched she was, to her very soul, that Grayce would prepare a room for her at their home on Christmas Eve and always include her in every family event. Having lost her mother at a very young age, this meant the world to Holly. I also loved watching Grayce interact with her grandsons. How she delighted in them! I know this is a tremendous loss for this family and for so many, many friends. May you be comforted with sweet and tender memories, now and always. "When you are lonely and sick of heart, go to the friends we know. And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds. Miss me, but let me go." - Posted by: Sheila McEntire (Childhood friend of Jodi's (Holly's)) on: Jan 23, 2013

  • My thoughts and prayers go out to Don, their children and beloved granchildren. Grayce is cherished in Heaven just as she was here. Grayce's light shone through, as her daughter said, even with her passing. She is and always will be truly missed. A reason, a season or a lifetime. Grayce was and is with me for all three.
