JAMES WILLIAM GIBB It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of James William Gibb on Saturday, January 19, 2013. Jim was born to the late James and Ann Gibb on November 12, 1945 in Flin Flon, MB and was predeceased by his sister Lynn in April, 2012. Jim is survived by his wife Matilda, son James, daughters Cassandra, Cheryl, and Sharon, grandchildren, Karleigh (Colin), Kersten, Cairo, Melissa (Kyle), Jordan, Toni and Sammy, great-grandchildren Malia and Colton, and numerous extended family members. Jim worked as a Refrigeration Mechanic based in Winnipeg for most of his life until moving up North in 1989, after which he was self-employed serving many northern communities most notably Nelson House. After years of planning, Jim and Matilda finally realized their dream of building a retirement home in Liz Lake, MB. Jim poured his heart and soul into creating a retreat for his family and friends to come and spend time doing things he loved. Jim was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman and loved teaching his family members the recreational pleasures of the great North such as boating, fishing, beachside bonfires and cabin hopping. The family would like to thank friends and family for their support and kindness as well as the excellent health care providers that gave gentle and caring support to Jim. A memorial service was held on Tuesday at the Nelson House United Church in Nelson House, MB. A second memorial service will take place on Friday, January 25 at 7:00 p.m., at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Matilda and Family, may the precious memories of your loved one be a comfort to you now, and may it help to know that many thoughts are with you in your sorrow. - Posted by: Hazel and Peter Mielke (Sister-In-Law) on: Jan 23, 2013

  • Many years ago (around 1971) my husband Wayne was trying to decide what occupation would be good for him. After my cousin Jimmy talked to him about his work in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration and what a good trade it was, Wayne decided to apply for the training. He had many years enjoying his work and our son also has an excellent career in the same trade. We moved out to the Coast and I am not sure if Jim ever knew what a difference his advice made in our lives. Rest in peace "Little Jimmy." - Posted by: Fern Sephton (Cousin) on: Jan 23, 2013

  • My sympathies to Matilda and family. Fond, fun memories of playing with my cousin Jimmy at Belle Lake in Laclu, Ontario 50 years ago. So sorry for your loss. Colleen Clancy - cousin - Posted by: Colleen Clancy (cousin) on: Jan 23, 2013
