Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERALD ANTHONY HAWKINS March 7, 1925 - February 20, 2013 Peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer, Dad passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at the Victoria Hospital, Winnipeg, MB at the age of 87 years. Left to cherish Gerald's memory are his four sons, Bud (Maureen), Sheldon (Joanne), Dale (Cathy) and Brad (Donna); as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Maevis in 2011 and his son Bob in 2013. Dad was a kind hearted man with a great sense of humour, always having a joke or two to share with anyone who would listen. He worked for Labatts and ABD (BDL) for many years until he retired which left him more time to do the things he loved: travelling, sports, gardening and reading. Dad was also a long time member of the Rockwood ANAF Unit 303 where he met many great friends over the years. He also had a special place in his heart for animals, especially cats. There was never a time where there wasn't a cat or two in the house either sitting on his lap or laying across his shoulders. In compliance with Dad's wishes, there will be no service. The family would like to thank Dr. S. Robillard, CancerCare Manitoba, and the wonderful staff on 5 South at the Victoria Hospital for all your kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gerald's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the Winnipeg Humane Society. Grandpa, all the memories. I remember so many Christmas dinners where Uncle Brad and I would fight over the last of the Brussel Sprouts..that is till he put vinegar on them. The many times you'd pick me up in your ABD truck and we'd just hang out. You will be truly missed. So close to your birthday... I will never again get to call you to wish you happy birthday and get to hear "same to you, but only tomorrow." I love you Grandpa. May angels watch over you always. Grampa, I will forever cherish the moments we shared together. Thank you for all the wisdom you have passed down to me and my son. I have been blessed to have gotten to spend the last year and half in your company and to know you and our family history. I will never forget your stories and your jokes, especially the last ones you shared with us in your last few days. I will always and forever keep you in my prayers.
