NORM OMAN The family of Norm Oman are saddened to announce his passing on February 21, 2013 just a week before his 83rd birthday. Norm was predeceased by his wife Johanna. Mourning his loss are his children Harvey and Shelley, Sandy and Michael and Michael and their mother Reva. His grandchildren Blake, Daniel, Kevin, Jenna, Andrea, Jackson and Brett will miss their special times with their Zaida. Norm also leaves behind nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends. He will be sorely missed by his friend Janie Shnier. Norm began his career as a pharmacist owning Salter Drugs before switching careers to become a teacher. After years of teaching drama, Norm was diagnosed with prostate cancer. This led to his work establishing prostate cancer support groups across Canada and overseas. He was also instrumental in establishing the Prostate Cancer Wing at CancerCare Manitoba. Norm was a devoted father and grandfather who loved and enjoyed time with his family. He was a very loyal friend who could always be counted on in times of need and was always there to add a spark of laughter to any group. Donations may be made in Norm's memory to Manitoba Prostate Cancer Support Group (204-989-3433) or CancerCare Manitoba Foundation (Prostate Cancer) or a charity of your choice.

I was privileged to be one of Norm's drama students at K.E. in the early 70s. His creativity, commitment and sheer joy in life were inspirational influences to me and many other kids. His tireless work with prostate cancer awareness and support does not surprise me - he was always reaching out to people to be a positive force in the world. Thank you, Norm! My sincere condolences to his family and friends. - Posted by: Barbara Magnusson (Student) on: Apr 08, 2013

Norm was a great supporter of our Dragon Boat Team, the Prostate Paddlers. Our goal is to raise awareness of prostate cancer. We will dedicate a race to him in the 2013 season. - Posted by: Colin McRae (Aquantance) on: Mar 17, 2013

Sorry to hear of the loss of Mr.Oman. I was in his drama class in the late 70's and given the opportunity to be in a few of his plays either on stage or behind. I loved improv that we used to do at the beginning of each class. He was a great teacher. My condolences to his family. - Posted by: Deb Guthrie (Former Drama Student at KERSS) on: Mar 04, 2013
