DENNIS WILLIAM MCKAY Sadly on Friday, March 15, 2013, at the age of 78, Dennis McKay passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital. Dennis is survived by his wife Dorothy, daughter Lois, sons Reginald (Debbie) and Blaine, mother-in-law Emma Gabel (Nanny), grandchildren Jason, Shena, Tyler, Bree (Justin), great-grandson James, and sisters Phyllis and Garnita. He is predeceased by his mother Ivy, father Colin, brothers Garnet, Mervin, Jackie and Walter, and sisters Leona and Colleen. Dennis William McKay was born on January 22, 1935 and raised in the Ashern, MB area. Dennis met a local girl named Dorothy Gabel from Camper, MB, fell in love, and married her. Times were tough, and they left their parents farms with virtually nothing but the shirts on their backs to start their lives together. Dennis and Dorothy moved to Winnipeg and had three children. Dennis and Dorothy worked hard to build their lives and treasured the weekends they could take the family out to their cottage for boating, fishing, swimming, horseshoes, etc. Dennis had a long 38 year career at Eaton's downtown in Winnipeg. He was fortunate to be offered an early retirement; it was a blessing for Dennis to enjoy those extra years. He loved to tinker with his classic car and was an avid handyman around the house. He especially loved to tease his wife of 56 years. Dennis will be remembered for his gentle spirit, love of nature, music, and warm sense of humour. He carried these traits to his final days. A private family service will be held.

Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • You were the best grandfather a kid could have asked for. I will never forget the time spent styling your hair with ribbons and as much baby oil as your hair could absorb, or jumping on your tummy. We were blessed to have you in our lives, and will miss you very much. Love you Grandpa. - Posted by: Bree Sabbath (Grand-daughter) on: Apr 04, 2013

  • My thoughts are with Uncle Dennis and family. Wish I was there to meet you all at the Memorial today. The obituary is beautiful, so true. I will always remember the Boxing Day Dinners, time spent at the beach, and the families gathering through out the years. I am so glad we have maintained family contact over the years. Love you all, Ray & Cheryl Mymryk - Posted by: Raymond Mymryk (Nephew) on: Mar 23, 2013
