ROBINA (INA) TURNBULL LAPP (nee PARSONS) Peacefully on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 Ina passed away at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 90 years. Left to mourn Ina are daughter Shirley Lapp; son Ronald Lapp; as well as nieces, nephews and family friend Jerry Shperuk. Mom was predeceased by her parents Reverend Bernard and Beatrice Parsons; brothers Harry and Duncan; sisters Mae and Mabel. Ina was born on November 17, 1922 in Saskatchewan. Ina and her family moved to several small towns in Saskatchewan and Manitoba due to her father's ministry. With each move Mom always said she could tell how large a new town would be by the number of grain elevators nearby the more grain elevators the happier she was. From a very young age Mom knew she wanted to be a teacher. She attended Normal School in Saskatoon, SK where she obtained her teaching certificate and began her teaching career in a one room school house on the prairies. From Saskatchewan she moved to Toronto where she did war work before settling in Winnipeg to raise her family. After a few years Mom went back to teaching and taught in a number of schools in Winnipeg School Division #1 until her retirement in 1987. During retirement Mom enjoyed many years of bowling with the retired teachers league, volunteering at St. Boniface Hospital and a variety of nursing homes, playing her piano, reading and her daily walks - no matter how bad the weather was. Some of her favourite walks were quite comical with leash in hand, sprinting at breakneck speed, desperately trying to keep up with "Maxx". Later in retirement she joined the downtown YMCA where she enjoyed aerobics, walking the track and swimming. At the family's request no formal service will be held. A private service and inurnment will follow at a later date. A special thank you to the health care team at Riverview for their care and compassion during the last year of Mom's life. Much gratitude to Mom's niece Jo-Anne Balkwill of Toronto for her visits and many cards and letters as well as deep appreciation to Shirley's friends who offered their support during the challenging times.
