ELIZABETH (BETTY) SURTEES (GRIFFITHS)
Date of Passing: Jun 02, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH (BETTY) SURTEES (nee GRIFFITHS) Peacefully on Sunday, June 2, 2013 our sweet mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, passed away at 89 years young with her family by her side. Left to cherish Betty's memory are her son James Surtees (Lynn); daughters Jo-Anne Palmer (Ray), Carole Corbett (Ian) and Liz Welligan (Grant); grandchildren Michael, Adrienne (Phil), Jamie (Stephanie), Greg, Stephen, Neil (Diana) and Jeffrey, and eight great-grandchildren who she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her infant son David; husband Bert, and brother Jim Griffiths. Mom had a great outlook on life despite her blindness and dementia in later years. She was always gracious and appreciative. She spent a lifetime of giving to others. Mom served in the Canadian Women's Army Corps during the Second World War. Mom enjoyed her many friends, volunteer work with Nearly New, sewing for her daughters, needlework, reading, bridge club, golf, curling, bowling and archery. She loved her travels throughout the United States, Mexico and Europe. Our Mother was selfless, always thinking of the needs of others before her own, even in her last hours. Her home was filled with love and beautiful surroundings. She loved her new home at West Park Manor and we are so thankful for the loving care she received there. A private interment will be held in Fort Frances, ON. Should friends so desire, contributions can be made to West Park Manor or a charity of choice.
