ANTHONY (TONY) SLUIS On Wednesday, June 12, 2013, Tony passed away peacefully with his wife Roberta Sluis by his side. Left to mourn and cherish Tony's memory are his stepmother Lucienne, mother-in-law, sisters, brothers, children, grandchildren and many family members. Tony is predeceased by his mother, father and sister Marion. Born May 14, 1943 in Utrecht, Holland; Tony arrived in Canada when he was six years old. Tony had many friends and tennis partners in Arizona where he and his wife loved to spend the winter. We are blessed with beautiful memories, treasured times and Tony's amazing sense of humour. A special thank you to Tony's daughter Diane, who was by his side till the end insuring her father had the best of care. A special thanks to Ainsley and Dr. Doa at Health Sciences Centre CancerCare for all their support over the past few years. I would also like to acknowledge Chris Wensel for all his help and support. In compliance with Tony's wishes, a private Celebration of Life will be held with immediate family. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be sent to Multiple Myeloma. Wojcik's Funeral Home & Crematorium, 2157 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, 204 - 897 - 4665, wojciksfuneralchapel.com. "May you rest in peace, my love."

Condolences & Memories (24 entries)

  • Here I sit, 37 years after graduating high school, and for no real reason, I wonder what Mr Sluis is up to these days. I'm very sorry to read of his passing. He was a great teacher and a very funny man. He apparently left his mark on me, as not only did I look him up after all these years, but I took the time to write a little something. Condolences to his family, may he rest in peace. - Posted by: Jason Pollock (Student) on: Feb 01, 2021

  • Dad: I am so glad you made your transition so peacefully and with loved ones at your side. Your wish was to be at home when the time came and I only hope your passage was as smooth and comforting as it could have been. Many memories I have ... Washing all three of us in the tub at once, taking us to Disneyland, weekly visits to grandpa's house every sunday hanging out at your high schools where you taught at and sneaking us treats from the freezer, my wedding"s" -(whoops), dances with you - you loved to dance, many awesome dinners with you and bobbi, trips to Arizona - meeting all your amazing friends, multiple hospital visits - even a few fun memories like the one when your jail work friends came and snuck in booze and caused a little commotion, and many more! Some of His favorite sayings: Schmake - schmake And remember " I have feelings - you know" ...The last days were a struggle of overcoming your fear of dying and easing the burden of having to fight anymore. Of allowing yourself a chance to rest and the suffering to stop! I hope you are up there and will be watching out over us...you done well on your journey. We are proud of the fight you gave. Thanks so much - to everyone who assisted in his journey! Love you Happy Father's Day - Dad Diane - Posted by: Diane Sluis (Daughter) on: Jun 16, 2013

  • Diane, I had the pleasure of meeting your Dad several years ago....what a fine gentleman! He had such a zest for life and love and pride in you. He has endured so much over the last several years, that although will miss him greatly, he is now at rest. The years of wonderful memories will be the tribute to his life. Thinking of you lots.
