SHARON ANN SAUNDERS (nee HARTE) July 6, 1954 July 23, 2013 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sharon Saunders on July 23, 2013, at Riverview Health Centre, after a brief but courageous battle with liver cancer. She was 59 years of age. She was predeceased by her mother Irene Harte and sister Dorothy Seed. She will be sadly missed by her husband Edward Saunders, daughter Sherri (Teddy) Hughson and son Ted (Katie) Saunders, Linda Saunders, grandchildren Nicholas (Melissa) Worth, Ryan Hughson, Joshua Saunders, Kathleen Saunders, as well as many other beloved family members and friends. During her early adult years, Sharon was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. When her children were much older, she began a career as the resident manager of Beliveau Gardens. She was employed in this position for almost 25 years and during this time many of the tenants she met and came to know became valued friends and part of the extended family. Sharon loved planning and organizing events for family, friends and tenants and the annual Canada Day Celebration was one of the biggest and best-complete with a fantastic BBQ and of course, the enormous fireworks display! Halloween was another favourite holiday...she spent days arranging spooky decorations in the lobby and crazy costumes were donned every year. Sharon loved to see the kids dressed in their costumes while handing out candy. Sharon valued family time above all else. She loved family get-togethers, eating and laughing and watching the children play. She was a devoted grandmother and rarely missed an opportunity to attend a hockey game or school concert. She enjoyed travel, particularly to visit her daughter, son-in-law and grandsons in their various postings to places like Germany, Petawawa and most recently, Yellowknife. Sharon was a good friend and continued many of her childhood friendships into adulthood and valued them tremendously. Sharon enjoyed cooking and baking...and anyone who tasted her pies or her legendary fruit cakes will miss them! The family would like to thank the staff at the Victoria General Hospital and Dr. Daenick and his office staff. We would also like to thank the staff at the Riverview Health Centre East Wing Palliative Care unit for the excellent care in her final days. We are so grateful that Sharon was cared for by the compassionate and caring staff of this facility and their many kindnesses to our family and friends were so appreciated. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society or the Winnipeg Humane Society. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, located at 4000 Portage Ave. A reception with refreshments will follow the service. • Words can't begin to express the sadness we all feel. The memories of Auntie Sharon is what will keep her alive in our hearts. I have many memories but one of the most precious and meaningful ones dates way back about 31 years ago. I was just a teenager and a brat to boot. But Auntie Sharon and Uncle Ted made me feel like I was still loved and in their hearts. They probably had no idea the impact their visit had on me forever. I love you so and will miss you. I will miss seeing you every time I visit home. My deepest condolences to my family. Uncle Ted, Sherri and Teddy my heart and soul are with you right now and forever more. - Posted by: Patti Legal (Niece) on: Jul 31, 2013
