ROBERT GARTH ROBINSON Bob left us after heart surgery at St. Boniface Hospital at 3:00 a.m., Monday, August 5, 2013. Bob was born in Russell and grew up there, playing hockey, chasing girls, falling out of trees, and breaking his leg playing football. He spent the summers at Silver Beach with family and friends. He had many friends, some gone, and some still here who he kept in contact with until the end. Bob finished high school in Russell and attended Ryerson University in Toronto. Upon his return to Winnipeg he worked for MTS. After conquering scuba diving he got his pilot license and went to new heights in his own hot air balloon. Bob worked at Rocanville Mine in Saskatchewan and then returned to Red River College to earn his diploma in Power Engineering. He worked at the downtown YMCA and Cadorath, before finishing his working career at Parmalat. Bob loved his home, woodworking, stone carving, and working on his Japanese garden, which no Japanese gardener would recognize. Bobby was a free spirit with a thirst for knowledge, loved by all that met him. Left to cherish Bob's memory are his sweetie Audrey; brothers Floyd (Leona), Ken (Kelly), Bill (Barb); sisters Kathy (Barry), Susan, Debbie (Russ); son Jeremy Robert; nieces and nephews Kim, Kelly (Jody), Colleen, Trevor (Sheena), Tara (Keith), Andrew (Shachi), Jeremy (Jenna), Steph (Steve), Stacey (Gavin) and Kelsey (Kody), and many great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his Mom and Dad, Margaret and Ralph, and his grandparents, Emma and Peter Kollman. A Celebration of Bobby's Life will be held on August 16, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the residence of Kelly and Jody Robinson, 1958 Hwy. 26, St. Francois Xavier, MB. Bob will be going home to Russell on September long weekend for the golf tournament riding in Woody's cart and joining his parents in Russell Memorial Cemetery. Winnipeg Funeral Director, Richard Wojcik of Wojcik's Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 2157 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, in care of arrangements, wojciksfuneralchapel.com, ph. 204-897-4665.

Condolences & Memories (35 entries)

  • I will miss you Bob! It's funny how we all think we'll be able to catch up later. I did have the pleasure of visiting with you for an evening at Lexies' last time I was in Winnipeg. Thanks for that. I do have a funny story to share. Many years ago when we lived in Calgary, Bob came for a visit to our house. We were in the back yard enjoying a few beverages when the idea came up that we should be drinking champagne. I said I would go to the store, Bob said get Dom Perignon, I replied that I have never tried that one, and Bob said as serious as can be, 'Well you never slept with me then' One of the many fond memories I have of him. Much sadness felt. Regards to Bob's family. - Posted by: Bette Loney (friend) on: Aug 22, 2013

  • My cousin Bob was truly the 1 Robinson who lived life his way. To the fullest! His infectious laugh and wit were inherited from his father and his Uncle Al (my dad). The world lost a character and we lost a friend. The saying in the family was - May the road rise to meet your feet, may the wind be at your back, and may you be in heaven an hour before the devil knows you're dead! So long Bob, we will always remember. - Posted by: Bob Robinson (Cousin) on: Aug 20, 2013

  • A sad loss for many of us. Bob had such a vibrant love of life, and those around him. Haven't kept in touch for many years, but I will miss him. My condolences to family and friends, and keep on rockin' Bob. - Posted by: Gary Reavie (Friend) on: Aug 18, 2013

  • A wonderful and vibrant friend to audrey and in turn to all of us. He fought the good fight and took it on the chin. We shall certainly miss his zest for life in our lives. Well done, true and faithful friend - Posted by: Corinne and jack manson (Friends) on: Aug 16, 2013

  • I first met Bob some 40 years ago when i started at MTS. He was one of my first journeymen. Our first job together, he taught me how to snare gophers from a second story window. We became instant friends and worked on numerous jobs together. I will never forget the summer we spent in Flin Flon and Denare beach. Bob was truly a remarkable man, and i thank him for being a part of my life. My condolences to the family. Rest well Dr. Zero, and we will meet again. - Posted by: Rod "Pepe" Fletcher (friend and co-worker) on: Aug 16, 2013

  • Darn, I wish I had had one last visit with you Bob. It has been way too long since we last talked. You meant a lot to me and I am so sad that I won't see you in this world again. We always take good things for granted. My heartfelt condolences to your family. You definitely left your mark in this world and we won't forget you! • Bob, As usual with the Mark women around, a guy can barely get a word in edgewise. But Dianna said it, like we all feel it. We miss you very much and will continue to forever. You meant the world to us all. Rest in Peace - Posted by: Dave, Sherrie, Marissa, Matt, Mallory (Friends) on: Aug 14, 2013

  • A life lived with passion, a laugh to warm your heart, a loyal friend, a good man. I’ve known Bob most of my life, he was my neighbour, Woody’s best friend, my good friend, Audrey’s sweetie. He was part of a huge and very special group of friends. His passing has reminded me how much I treasure and value those special life long friendships. We were all lucky to have Bob in our lives and to have each other. Let’s hang on tight and enjoy the ride, Bob will be cruising with us in spirit. - Posted by: Kathy Langford (Friend) on: Aug 14, 2013

  • Hard to say Good-bye to a life long best friend. Traveled down many roads together, always in touch never really far apart. Bob your wit and laughter will always be in my heart, carried with me every day. I will miss you Bubby! - Posted by: Spank (Friend) on: Aug 13, 2013

  • Hi Balloon Man, I’ve been trying to work out in my head what words to say – what would have enough meaning, power, substance – maybe be able to pen a suitable poem, nothing comes. No words, no reason, no sense. So soon. Too soon. All that comes is Thank you. Thank you for laughter, compassion, and understanding. Thank you for your wit, oh so fast sometimes it took me a minute. Thank you for the kinship of your artistry and adventurous spirit, love of music, and stories, how I loved the stories. There was so much more I wanted to learn – the stone carving, woodwork. Thank you Bob, for coming into our family at such a dark time and being so young at heart, so much fun. Thank you for showing it’s not about me. Thank you Bob, above all for making my mum so very happy. For that I am forever grateful. Soft winds and clear skies Balloon man, you are so missed. A Balloonists Prayer May the Wind welcome you with softness May the sun bless you with its warm hands May you fly so high and so well that God joins you in laughter, And sets you gently back into the loving arms of Mother Earth - Posted by: Dianna Mark (Daughter of Sweetie) on: Aug 12, 2013

  • It is so sad to hear about a close friend that dies. I regret that we had not kept in touch lately. Considering that we started Grade 1 together, and our friendship continued right through to our wedding day and beyond when he was our best man, I just always thought he would always be around somewhere. Like Brooks and Murray, he left us far too soon. I trust that the Good Lord will take good care of him because he remains special to many people. - Posted by: Wally and Marilyn Jackson () on: Aug 12, 2013

  • Bob and I lived across the street from each other… And as best friends and prairie boys will do, we got into our fair share of mischief and shenanigans. I spoke with Bob in the hospital and we made plans for a long chat once he got out. I will greatly miss his friendship, wit, sense of humour and crazy laugh. My condolences to all the family Rest in peace my friend….. - Posted by: Les Stanchuk (lifelong friend-little buddy) on: Aug 12, 2013

  • Bob was a very skilled Craftsman and worked in the Instrument Department at Rocanville. Bob had a very natural talent for entertaining due to his witty personality. He became a legend long after he moved on. There was never a dull moment as long as Bob was around. In spite of his carefree and easy going attitude he was a good employee and was a very skilled tradesman. Bob, I am very saddened by your passing and very sorry that I did not have the opportunity to say goodbye. Jacquie and I would like to extend our condolences to all your friends and family. May you rest in peace. - Posted by: Ed Zimmer (Instrumentation Supervisor, PCS Rocanville) on: Aug 12, 2013

  • All the Robinson boys were my pals growing up in Russell and I have vivid memories of Bob's special brand of mischief. Condolences to Bob's brothers, sisters, and other family members from an old friend. - Posted by: Brian Pettitt (Childhood Friend) on: Aug 11, 2013

  • I was stoked to have a heart to heart chat with Bobby at Bitches n' Babes at Silver Beach (July 6th) as I haven't seen him much over the past many years. I didn't know it would be our last. Like Nik said - "Heaven has got a lot funnier". I was so reminded of that and I feel blessed to have had that op to chat. I'm so sad for all who knew and loved Bob and I'm sad for him, missing out on some of the things he was hopeful for. I guess his fun and future in heaven couldn't wait and they are lucky to have him. - Posted by: Sherry () on: Aug 11, 2013

  • The commander took quick wit and retort to the stratosphere. A sense of humor that amazed and a trademark laugh that could only be characterized as a cackle of delight. Always a quiver full of stories of a misspent youth with a cast of the usual suspects that would make the faint of heart shudder. Wisdom that was always there to share but never in your face. A clone of Phineas Phreak and Freewheelin’ Franklin may best sum it up. As Herman Brood quipped, old memories don’t pay my liquor bills, but the old memories of the commander will survive the test of time. - Posted by: The Dink ( Old Russell dude) on: Aug 11, 2013

  • Good memories of the high school years and gatherings at the Robinson household. - Posted by: Gene & Diana Ewankiw (High School Friends) on: Aug 10, 2013

  • My most vivid memory of Bob was when he baby-sat my brother, Bill and I in Russell. Bill and I were bad little kids when Bob baby-sat us. We quickly behaved once Bob said, "If you two little buggers don't stop misbehaving, I going to tell your Dad!" Bill and I quickly became two good little boys for the rest of the evening. - Posted by: Guy McMurray (friend) on: Aug 10, 2013

  • Bob was ahead of the pack. Will see him lean and laughing with Rick and Brooks. Love to all friends and family. ~~nancy - Posted by: Nancy McLennan (Friend) on: Aug 10, 2013

  • I grew up in Russell and attended school with Bob. As summer employment I worked with Bob on the Manitoba Pool Elevator construction crew. We travelled to several small Manitoba towns building grain elevators and annexes. I have many great memories of our good times together working and partying during those summers. I recently met Bob at Silver Beach in July and had a chance to reminisce about all the things we pulled off and the where abouts of the other friends we worked with on the crew. Bob's sense of humour and fun outlook on life will surely be missed by all who knew him! My sincere condolences go out to all his family, relatives and friends during this difficult time! God Bless you all! - Posted by: Ron Sidoryk (High School friend) on: Aug 10, 2013

  • This is so sad; the world has lost a truly unique character. I know I've never met anyone remotely like Commander Zero and I'm pretty sure I never will. The Dos Equis "Most Interesting Man in the World" couldn't hold a candle to the Commander. It was impossible to meet Bobby and not be instantly smiling and laughing at his razor-sharp wit and compelling charm. He was a true Renaissance man and could do anything he put his mind to. But most of all he was a great friend and I miss him dearly. Take care my friend. - Posted by: Kevin Wallace ("Kevy" to Bob) (Friend and fan) on: Aug 10, 2013
