BRENDA WEIDE It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brenda Weide on September 19, 2013 at the age of 86 years. Brenda was predeceased by her husband, Jeff in 1998, her sister, Judy in 1992 and her brother-in-law Paul Petrychka in 1999. She leaves to cherish her memory her children Richard (Esther Kiernan), Penny (Eric Peters) and Val (Hermann Schuchardt), her grandchildren Claire, Zoƫ (Chris Higgins) and Nicholas Weide, Madeleine and Owen Schuchardt, as well as her great-granddaughter Olivia Higgins. Mum will also be missed by her sister Shirly and brother-in-law Brian Bruton and the Bruton family in England and Spain, and by her niece Susan Morrissey (Jim) in Pennsylvania and nephew David Petrychka (Catherine) in California. Mum was born in Badminton, England on March 29, 1927, the second of three daughters of Ethel and George Bott. Years later, the family moved to Cirencester, where Mum and Dad met and married. They subsequently immigrated to Canada where they raised their family. Once the three of us were in school, Mum went to work at the public library in Windsor Park. She loved her job and enjoyed the people she met through her time there. Mum was very much the centre of our family. She was a woman of great dignity, generosity and kindness. She was a strong and determined person with an independent spirit and a wonderful sense of humour. She loved her family above all else. She was surrounded by terrific friends and neighbours. A memorial service to celebrate Mum's life will be held on Wednesday, September 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Chapel, 669 Broadway. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Nithya Venkatesan, Yiyang Zhang and the medical team at St. Boniface Hospital for their wonderful care of Mum and for their support to our family through this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Brenda's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation at Suite 200 - 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Condolences & Memories (14 entries)

  • I went today by your house to say hi, and find out you did not live there anymore. My wife asked me to get your number because we have not heard from you in a long time since we moved to Ottawa 2 years ago and that she has lost all of her numbers....my research brought me here You welcomed us when we bought our first house at 204 Harper and you witnessed the arrival of our children Aliya and Alex. We met your family and got to know Troubshaw and Poppy...we came to say goodbye when we moved to Ottawa...but we didn't know it was the last time we were seeing you. Now I have to find a way to tell Maha that I did not see you and you are no longer with us... I am glad we have met and will never forget what a wonderful mother and grandmother you were to us and our children. We will cherish your advice and memories as long as we live. We will miss you. • Val and family:: I was so sorry to read of your Mom's passing. I used to meet her while we were walking our dogs (Trubshaw and Taffy), also when she worked at the library, and we always had an enjoyable chat. She was always so friendly and I know she will be missed so much but also know your memories of her will keep her alive in your heart. - Posted by: Doreen Amos (Friend) on: Sep 25, 2013

  • To all of the Weide family members. We will miss your Mum, our cherished neighbour of 26 years. During our visits with Brenda, she would often share with us her home made cherry schnaps, the most delicious freshly baked biscotti with pistachio or other sweets that we thoroughly enjoyed. She would talk about many childhood memories, give her point of view of the world events, and some news of her family members. Before we would leave to go back home, Brenda would reach up from her tiptoes to give each of us a tight squeeze and remind us that she loved her neighbours. Brenda we will always keep you close in our hearts. RIP - Posted by: Raoul, Jacquie and Corinne (Neighbours) on: Sep 24, 2013

  • The years have passed by so quickly since I last saw you, but you have always been in my heart. You were like a Mother to me when I first came to Canada and for that I will remain truly grateful. My Children had the best Grandma they could ever wish for and are all so grieved by your passing. I hope I can be as special a Grandma to Olivia as you were to Claire, Zoe and Nick. Rest with the Angels Brenda. My love and everlasting gratitude goes with you. - Posted by: Jackie Weide (Daughter-in-law) on: Sep 24, 2013

  • I first met Brenda when our children had school projects, she worked at the Windsor Park library, I found her to be very helpful to them. I used to meet her on Autumnwood walking her wee black dog, I can,t for the love of me remember his name, anyway as we both retired i met her in St Vital Park walking Poppy & me Meg. Brenda was a very heartwarming lady, she had many friends [plus doggie ones as well] she made a fuss of all her furry angels as she called them. Many a cold morning she could be found in her car with the windows down, poppy looking out the back window to see if she could see any of her friends coming down the road, Brenda loved her timmies many's the time we would meet there & enjoy listening to all her escapades, she was quite the funny lady. Well dear friend Goodbye we'll miss you soo much. Rest in Peace - Posted by: Margaret & Tom Shade (Dear Friend) on: Sep 24, 2013

  • Our time with your mom was but a few short years. But our memories are strong and forever of a dear lady who shared our passion for dog walks in St Vital Park while we lived in the area.
