DAVID ARCHIBALD ROGERS June 24, 1938 - November 9, 2013 Suddenly, but not unexpectedly after a lengthy illness, Dave left us on Saturday, November 9, 2013. Dave was a big hearted man who was always there to help his friends and family. His ready smile and sense of humour were contagious. Known as Rocket or Archie to his oldest pals he was a guy anyone would enjoy having a beer with. Dave was an entrepreneur known more for the heart he showed in his many attempts than his successes. He was a great father who modeled integrity, and composure especially for his kids and their friends who in their teen years had a habit of crashing his cars and boat. "As long as you are okay, that is all that matters." His pride in his children also showed from behind the boards when he was coaching hockey, or behind the camera when videotaping many synchro swim meets. His support was unwavering. A stroke 17 years ago changed the Dave we knew, into someone less lively who entered retirement suffering from depression. As he slowly withdrew from all but his immediate family, we loved him just as much and did manage to coax out the old Dave once in a while. The recent loss of his wife Elaine, of 52 years, and his own cancer diagnosis just over a year ago were very tough on him. Through this period his happy places were Lake of the Woods and with family and especially following his grandchildren in sports, school and the joys of being kids. Dave leaves behind his three children, their spouses and six grandchildren who will all miss Pops" greatly: Greg Rogers, Kathy, Kieran and Nick; Jeff Rogers, Tracy, McKenzie and Harrison; Janelle and Alan Franklin, Reese and Mathea. Dave also leaves his younger sister, Joy who has been a source of support throughout his life. Our family is grateful to Dr. Karpinski, who provided excellent care to a challenging patient through his last two years. Funeral Mass will be Celebrated on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, 255 Stafford Street, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to a cancer research foundation of your choice. I was so sorry to first hear of Dave's illness and then of his death. To all his family...please accept my heartfelt sympathy. To Joy and Janelle, who's paths have been connected to my own through the years at one time or another...I offer a warm hug and wish I could offer something to bring you even a moment of comfort in your grief. I had not seen Dave for a very long time, but he was a person one remembers after meeting him. He was fun, hard working, intelligent, giving and so very family oriented. He made our world a better place, in my opinion. I pray that smiles and happy memories will soon replace tears. - Posted by: Ann Guliov (friend) on: Nov 30, 2013

My late husband, Bev Jones, and I knew your parents and you "kids" when you were all very young. I don't expect you to remember us but I want you to know I am thinking of you all at this time. Your father's long battle must have been so hard for you, as it was for your strong and caring mother, and I am glad in some ways to know he is now at peace. Rest well, Dave and Elaine. Sincerely, Jan Jones - Posted by: Janice Jones (Friend) on: Nov 15, 2013

Greg, My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. - Posted by: Michel Potvin (Friend of Son) on: Nov 14, 2013

Mr Rogers was undoubtedly one of the most patient, cheerful and optimistic men on Earth. His apparent amusement at the hare-brained capers that we (Greg and cronies) somehow managed to cook up weekly was testament to his patience and to his wildly optimistic faith that we would somehow, contrary to all the evidence, turn out okay in the end. He was a great guy, and he will be sorely missed. - Posted by: Brian Sharpe (Family Friend) on: Nov 14, 2013

We will miss seeing Dave drive past our cottage and the friendly wave he gave us each and every time. - Posted by: Sharron Pugh (Friend) on: Nov 13, 2013

Mr. Rogers (I never fully transitioned to "Dave") will be missed by the many people whose lives he's touched. I spent a large part of my youth and young adult life at the Rogers' house and cottage, and Mr. Rogers always made me feel like a welcome member of the family. I was one of the kids who, after a fender-bender, was told, "As long as you are okay, that is all that matters." And I knew he was being completely truthful. Dave was a great father to his kids and their friends. Rest in peace, Mr. Rogers. Love, hugs and condolences to my best and oldest friend Janelle, her husband Alan Franklin, Reese and Mathea; Greg, Kathy, Kieran and Nick; Jeff, Tracy, McKenzie and Harrison; and to Joy. - Posted by: Kirstin Stokes Smith (family friend) on: Nov 13, 2013
