Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM ARTHUR WHISTON Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, William (Bill) A. Whiston passed away at Deer Lodge Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the age of 82 years. Left to cherish Bill's memory are his wife Joan Mcmurdo (nee Sinclair); son Iain (Amanda); grandchildren Silas, Joshua, Cale, and Amelia; daughter Linda (Delbert); brothers James and Robert; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents William A. and Mary Helen (nee Boskett); three brothers Walter, David and Raymond; and two sisters Evelyn and Joan. On April 25, 1931, Bill was born in East York, Toronto, Ontario, and the eldest of eight children. He was always interested in mechanics, and was an accomplished athlete playing baseball, soccer, and hockey at a very competitive level. He joined the RCAF in 1953 and was posted to Winnipeg where he met his wife Joan and where his children were born. Bill's military career gave him and his family the opportunity to live in many parts of the country and travel to many places in the world. These experiences he cherished greatly. Bill served with the RCAF for 21 years as a radar/telecom technician (air) until he retired in 1974. He then worked for Bristol Aerospace in Winnipeg as their plant electrical supervisor until he retired in 1987. Bill was a private pilot, an avid golfer and curler, and loved to spend his summers at the camp on Clearwater Bay, Lake of the Woods (his favourite place), fishing and keeping the camp in good working order. He was a past president of the Charleswood Curling Club and was an honorary life member of the Manitoba Curling Association. Bill was an active member of the Air Force Association 500 Wing and as such participated in many military ceremonies, once as the Commander of the Old Guard for the dedication of the Garden Of Memories in 1999. In compliance with Bill's wishes, there will not be a Funeral Service. Grateful thanks to the doctors, nurses and all the support staff at Deer Lodge Centre Ward 4E, who took care of Bill for the past year. Donations may be made in Bill's memory to the Deer Lodge Foundation or the Lung Association of Manitoba.
