ROSILDA (ROSE, DADA) MARIE ROSS (nee MCKAY) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, grandma, great-grandma and great-great-grandma at the age of 94. She passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Health Sciences Centre surrounded by her loving family at her side. Rose was predeceased by her husband Alfred; her two older sisters Angelique and Virginie; her grandchildren Susan, Patrick, Kenneth, Maurice, and Darrell; her sons-in-law Bryan, Herbert, Laurent, Norman; and daughter-in-law Irene. She is survived by her children David (Jeannine), Alvina (Del), Jeanne, Pauline (Gus), George (Linda), Myrna, Clifford (friend Jennefer), Bernadette (Bob), Rachelle, Wilma (Gerald), Clarence (Lucille), Wayne and Christine; her 28 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren. Rose grew up and spent most of her life in St. Eustache, Manitoba. She spent a brief time in St. Boniface with her sister Angelique, to attend school at Sacred Heart. She returned to St. Eustache to help raise Dave at the age of 13. She then married Alfred at the young age of 17 in 1936. Along with raising her children, Rose cleaned houses to help support her family. She was a dedicated mother, travelling to visit and help her children wherever they were. With all Rose did, attending to her children, tending to a large garden, she was still able to fit in her favourite pastimes. She was a talented gardener and loved working in her beautiful flower beds. She had a passion for making hook rugs, knitting, sewing and quilting her famous blue jean blankets. Rose's cherished handcrafted items live on in the households of many members of her family. She was an active member of the "Young at Heart Club" since its inception, where she made many lasting friendships. She enjoyed playing card games with her family and her friends from the club. She was also an avid Winnipeg Jets fan. In her later years, Rose lived independently in her home overlooking the Mill Creek. She was hard working and kept up her house and yard work until the end, still using the wood stove for heating and cooking. Her delicious cinnamon buns and lemon pies were a couple of her most treasured recipes. She was also known for her Local MMF prize winning "galette". Prayers will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Eustache Roman Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. John Legitimas, presiding. The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff on ward GA3 at the Health Sciences Centre for their compassion in caring for her. The family has asked that any donations that wish to be made be pledged to a charity of the donor's choice in Rose's name. Wojcik's Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 2157 Portage Avenue, 204-897-4665, is in care of arrangements. wojciksfuneralchapel.com Sadly missed, never forgotten, always loved. Mom, you were such an inspiration to us all. You leave behind a legacy of four generations to carry on your memory.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Sorry to hear about the passing of Mme Ross. She was a very kind and giving lady. My heart-felt sympathies to all of the family. A true gem of a person will be sadly missed in St. Eustache. - Posted by: Jeff Beaudin (Friend) on: Dec 07, 2013

  • Dear Granny, With heavy heart I write this message. I will miss your cheerful smile and the mischeivious twinkle in your eye. You will always be in my heart. I love you. Brenda - Posted by: Brenda Kellsey (Grand daughter) on: Dec 04, 2013

  • I've known her as either Dada or Mme Ross. She was a very kind person. I remember her in their store in Fort Rouge where I used to go buy ice cream as a kid. She would sometimes give me the ice cream even if I didn't have enough money or give it to me on credit and I'd pay her back later. My condolences for your loss. - Posted by: Linda St. Cyr (friend) on: Dec 04, 2013
