Nanny had a heart of solid gold and was truly one of the greatest people to walk this earth. I owe all my childhood memories to her -- from summers at the farm or in Gimli, to regular every days on Sherburn. She even found the time in her busy schedule to take Mary and I to dancing lessons. She was extremely special to me -- like a mother and father all rolled into one. More than that, she was my safe haven. When I smashed my nose on the swings, I ran to Nanny's. When I was followed home from school by a van, I ran to Nanny's. If I had a secret, only Nanny was told. I spent more time at Nanny's house than my own. And for all that time I spent with her, she only got mad at me once, and that was because I shifted her Datsun into reverse while it was parked and idling while she ran into the drive-in, and I was only 8. I will never forget sneaking shots of Tia Maria in her dining room on Sherburn, or that time I wrote a note and stuck it between the walls in her pantry where it should still be today. Nanny was full of fun, full of life and a blessing to anyone who was lucky to know her. A True Angel and definitely one of a kind. Rest in peace Nanny, you will always be treasured and never forgotten. My deepest sympathies to John, Larry and the whole family. - Posted by: Kathy Zaruba Landon (Great Niece/Goddaughter) on: Dec 07, 2013

Larry & Cathy, John & Elna, and family: 'Nanny,' as Kathy and I called her, was the most wonderful woman that we ever had the fortune of knowing and being related to. When we were little, Kathy and I always used to ask Ma if we could go over to Nanny's house and visit. We always felt so special and so loved by her. And what fun we had at Gimli Drive-Inn! Such wonderful memories that we will never ever forget. We will miss her tremendously. Heaven has received a very special Angel. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. - Posted by: Mary Glowatsky (nee Zaruba) (Great Niece / Goddaughter) on: Dec 06, 2013

Lori, Larry, Cathy... I am so saddened to hear that Mary has passed on. She was a special lady who gave me many special memories as young woman many years ago. My deepest sympathies to you all during this difficult time. - Posted by: Allison Dowhanik (Lori's Friend) on: Dec 05, 2013

Dear John Elna and family and Larry and family... I remember how very kind Aunty Mary and Aunty Allie were to me when I was 16 years old. They allowed me to "help" at their Gimli restaurant. When Ronnie and Rita were married, Aunty Mary and I went downtown and giggled because she was having her makeup done professionally... but could not keep a straight face. She always smiled and that was infectious to anyone around her. With her kindness ...y ou now have a perfect angel watching over you. I just know in my heart that Aunty Pauline and my Dad will be welcoming her. Take care ....Love Susan - Posted by: Susan Shott MacDonald (niece) on: Dec 05, 2013

I am so very sad that my dearest friend, Mary, has passed. She was the greatest Lady that I have ever met. She was so kind hearted and she always had a smile that would light up a room. I will miss my visits with Mary and our "cups of tea and conversation" and how we got together to watch our favorite show the "Bachelor". My condolences to the Family. I will miss Mary so very much! - Posted by: Janice Keller (Friend and Neigbour) on: Dec 05, 2013
