COLIN DUDLEY KNIGHT Colin Dudley Knight, aged 83 of St. James, Winnipeg, after a long battle passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013 peacefully with his family by his side at Riverview Health Centre. Colin was born to the late Dudley and Elsie Knight, October 18, 1930 in Harrow, Middlesex, U.K. Colin's professional life included being a Formula 1 race car mechanic and owner of Hoverking Ltd, a company which designed, built and raced hovercraft. Colin moved to Canada with his wife Patricia in 1978 and in his retirement years was known in St. James as the "go to guy" to fix anything, as long as it was done his way. He will be greatly missed by all his friends and neighbours. Colin is survived by his wife Patricia and his two sons, Graham of St. James, Winnipeg and Kevin and partner Lori Nelson of Grosse Isle Manitoba; he also is survived by his grandchild Kelsey. In the UK Colin has his brother Malcolm, sister Julie, cousin Gavin and a large family of nephews and nieces. We wish to thank Dr. Ian Maharaj, all the staff at Deer Lodge Centre and the Riverview Health Centre for their wonderful care and help. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations may be made to Cancer Research or the Deer Lodge Centre, 2109 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3J 9Z9. A memorial gathering will be held Sunday, December 15, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Bourkevale Community Centre, 100 Ferry Road, Winnipeg, all welcome. Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I was new to St. James and met Colin not long afterwards. Among his many pursuits, Colin ran a tow truck company - and I found out that a friend Ralph worked for him for a while. Colin would walk up and down the back lane on the way to the corner store, and if he saw something about your property that was amiss he would not hesitate to tell you! "That's Bloodbine! People burn that. You need to pull it out." One year someone had abandoned their car in my driveway - an old Aries K-car. It was locked. Ralph had tried to give me instructions over the phone about putting the car into neutral (so I could push it into the lane and call the City) by reaching into the engine bay somewhere - but I couldn't figure it out on my own. I was outside looking at the car when Colin wandered by, and I told him what had happened. Colin continued home, and I went back into the house. I was upstairs vacuuming the loft when I looked out the window to see Colin trying to get into that car. I soon joined him outside with a crowbar and we got it open with his tool, allowing me to later relocate that car. Fun times in St. James ;) - Posted by: Helena K (Neighbor) on: Sep 18, 2025

  • Although we didn't see much of each other in the past few years, Colin always remained in my heart and he always will. He was a force to be reckoned with. With a kind and gentle heart and soul. Always there to help, and could fix ANYTHING, even if you felt life wasn't worth fixing, Colin would make things right. I am deeply saddened by his passing. May he be winning all his races and toasting a good scotch, cheers, Colin. - Posted by: Jackie () on: Dec 07, 2013
