It was my great privilege to meet Bill Rosnyk in the summer of 2004 while researching my book Kings of the Diamond. By all accounts from his peers, Bill was highly regarded as an intensely competitive and highly skilled softball player and all around athlete; one of the best of his era in 1950's Winnipeg. With his brother Mike, a member of the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame, they formed part of the nucleus of the Manitoba Champions and Western Canada Finalist 1950 Northern Hotel softball team of 1950. Moreover, Bill and his wife Ollie welcomed me into their home in Edmonton and were most generous with their time while I interviewed him for my book and during subsequent follow-up phone calls. His clarity of recollection and insights of that period were amazing. It was obvious to me the great pride and joy he still had for his accomplishments as a player and the relationships he formed with team mates and opponents of the Twentieth Century Community Softball League. I am truly saddened to learn of his passing, which is another lost connection to the great sporting history of our hometown, Winnipeg. I would like to offer my sincere condolences to Bill's wife Ollie and his family. - Posted by: Robert T Diamond (Author of Kings of the Diamond) on: Dec 14, 2013
