ROBERT JEFFREY May 1920 - January 2014 Royal Air Force (Second World War) Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, Robert passed away on January 29, 2014 in Ottawa. Predeceased by Irene, his beloved wife of over 65 years. Survived by his sons Stuart (Ottawa) and Robert, (Montreal) and their families including five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and his sister Lorna Sayers of Ware, UK. He served in the 4th Bn Gordon Highlanders, 1934 - 1939. From March 1939 to March 1946 he served in the RAF as an aircraft engine fitter followed by five years in the RAF Reserve. In 1951 he immigrated to Canada working for CNR, Bristol Aerospace and Air Canada in Winnipeg. Transferred to Montreal in 1965, he worked at the Air Canada Dorval Maintenance Base until retiring as a General Foreman in January 1983. He was a well-respected certified aircraft maintenance engineer. An avid soccer player throughout his youth and RAF service, he played as a professional in the UK after the Second World War, then as an amateur player (United Weston) and coach in Winnipeg. He coached minor soccer for many years in Winnipeg and Dorval. His retirement was passed with his family, travelling, golfing and enjoying many social occasions with family and friends. He loved his family deeply, served his country in peace and war, worked hard and was proud to be a Canadian. A graveside service for Robert and Irene will be held at the NMC in Ottawa in the early Spring. BYDAND PER ARDUA AD ASTRA
