FLORENCE SALTER Peacefully in her sleep and family holding her hand, Florence Salter was reunited with the rest of her family on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at the age of 91 years, after a courageous battle with cancer. Left to mourn Florence are her son Darrell (Sandra); as well as many friends and relatives. She will be missed much by her little friend, Jenny (pictured above). She was predeceased by her husband, Howard, in 1995. People who knew Florence knew she was the first to be there to give someone a hand. She would go out of her way to make sure a person would receive whatever care they needed. And even after her passing, Florence will continue to help other people. All of her clothing will be going to the Salvation Army, so people will have clothes on their back for years to come. Special thanks goes to Charlie Houston who helped out so much and to the staff at Grace Hospital for making Florence's last days as comfortable as possible. I meet Florence 24 years ago. She came to the hair salon to get her hair done by her granddaughter Nikki. When Nikki changed her career she still came to the shop weekly to get her hair done. As the years went by we heard many family stories. When she could not get out and about I went to her home to do her hair every Monday for many years and got to know her as a freind. Darrell was always there for his Mom when she needed him the most he was there. Thanks Darrell for letting me say My Good byes to Your Mother with you and Sandra it ment the world to me. Your Mother will be missed by all my she Rest in Peace Carla - Posted by: Carla Nichols (Friend ) on: Feb 12, 2014

Auntie Florence was a kind, generous lady who will be missed by many. She touched the hearts and lives of relatives and friends alike over the years. I have wonderful, warm memories of time spent in her home and in her company at family gatherings. Florence stopped in for coffee each week after her hair appointment in my pre-school days and I looked forward to her visits and sitting on her lap while she chatted with my mom. She always made me feel so grown up and special! Many thanks to our cousin Nikki for naming some of Florence’s family members; including those who are with us today and those who have gone on ahead to meet Florence on her journey. Families branch out and take their own paths in life but our hearts always remember our roots. I was deeply saddened to read of Auntie Florence's passing in Saturday’s paper. - Posted by: Nola (Niece) on: Feb 10, 2014

Florence (Nana) had a large family, she was predeceased by: her four brothers Gordon, George, Donald and Charlie, her sisters Irene and Annette. Survived by: her sister Yvonne, daughter Marge, grandchildren Nikki and Chris, great-grandchildren Craig, Cole and Adam, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Special friends Marlene Salter and Grace McKay. Memories fade as lives change, life choices are made, and time goes on. I will always smile though when I think of Nana acting/dancing around like the A&W Rootbear. It was the best thing ever as a kid. Guaranteed to make me laugh every time. If family were a fruit, ours would be an orange. A circle of sections held together but separable - each segment distinctly unique. - Posted by: Nikki (Grandaughter) on: Feb 09, 2014
