EILEEN DAWN FENTON (nee BJARNARSON) February 12, 1952 - February 16, 2014 With her family by her side, Eileen passed away peacefully at home after a gutsy fight with cancer. Over the last twenty years she braved surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation treatment, yet remained positive and continued to travel and enjoy her numerous hobbies. Left to cherish Eileen's memory are husband Chuck; daughters, Shauna (Matt) and Erin (Scott); grandson William; sister Joy (Brian); nephews, Sean and Adam; stepmother Phyllis; and extended family and friends. She was predeceased by parents, Ron and Willy; and brother Brent. Eileen was well known for her baking and cooking abilities and loved to share her recipes and creations. Many care packages full of baked goods have been sent to Toronto and Houston, including homemade "Granny Bones" for her favorite grand dog, Porter. One of the highlights of this past year was the birth of her grandson, William. She was so excited to have been there for his arrival and even more proud that William was the spitting image of her. Born and raised in Steele Bridge, MB, Eileen had fond memories of her youth on the farm and the adventures she had with her many cousins. She moved to Winnipeg with her daughter, Shauna, where she met and married her husband Chuck. Eileen and Chuck were best friends and enjoyed many hobbies together. They loved to golf, attend Gold-eye games, garden, camp at West Hawk Lake, go for walks at Fort Whyte, and travel to see their daughters, Shauna and Erin. Eileen was happiest when she was surrounded by her family and friends. Family road trips and camping were made complete by scavenger hunts and playing board games including her favorites, Scrabble and Rumoli. Eileen was the "Queen of Clean", lover of lists, an avid dish collector, and maintained an extensive cookbook library. She loved to listen to the loons at West Hawk Lake and take many a portrait with her family on "picture rock". As per Eileen's request a service will not be held. To honor her spirit please play a game of scrabble or bake a sweet. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fort Whyte Alive or CancerCare Manitoba. The family would like to thank Dr. Navaratnam and nurses Lori and Kristie for their care and kindness. Long blonde hair, pretty smile, the look of confidence. That's how I remember her at TruServ Canada where we met, 20 years ago. She owned this special kind of strength and soon became my "logical listener". The most selfless person in the world, always thinking of others before herself. Although she was fighting the battle of her life, she made time for you first. When she would speak of her cancer, she always seemed to have a way of making it more positive than negative. I am still amazed by her bravery and have learned so much from her. Tomorrow at TruServ Canada we will all bring in some baking and pay tribute to our beautiful brave friend. I will bring in one of her recipes and HOPE they are as good as her famous "granny bones" at least! :) love and miss you my friend. Thoughts and prayers to Chuck, Shauna, Erin and family. - Posted by: Kim (friend) on: Feb 26, 2014

I have so many memories growing up with your family. The camping trips, the dinners together and especially watching "The Last Unicorn". The love and laughter our families shared will never be forgotten. Chuck, Erin and Shauna you are in my thoughts and prayers and Eileen is a true inspiration on the strength of the human spirit. I love you guys. - Posted by: Jennifer Tougas (family friend) on: Feb 24, 2014

Eileen was my "Winnipeg mom" when I lived there and she, Chuck and Erin took such wonderful care of me. I fondly remember her homemade baked treats and her amazing hummus, which Erin now also makes! She was such a special woman with a generous and loving spirit. - Posted by: Deepshikha Garga (Friend of Erin Fenton) on: Feb 22, 2014

Our thoughts are with Chuck and family. Eileen was an inspiration to all who knew her! Her courage and “we will do whatever needs to be done” attitude were qualities that made her unique! She always had a smile whenever you saw her and was always doing (baking/cleaning topping the list with shopping not far behind!) and thinking of others! She was happiest when talking about her family and their many adventures – and of course – the arrival of William and the many stories of Porter! Her positive attitude towards life changed many lives – including those of our family! The annual Xmas treat of peanut butter square packaged up for our kids; sharing recipes and meals; our love of golf and our back yards! We are so fortunate to have had this incredible lady as part of our lives and cherish our special friendship with Chuck and Eileen. We will keep the golf memory alive and will remember Eileen as we meet again on the links Chuck! Take Care! - Posted by: The Noakes Family (Forever Friends) on: Feb 21, 2014

I once ate an entire Tupperware container of Mrs. Fenton's Hershey kiss cookies, and have yet to find another cookie as good. Very fond memories of being at the Fenton house growing up, and know first hand what a close and loving family you are. You will not be short on happy, love smothered memories to ease the heartache. My deepest sympathies. - Posted by: Joanne Campbell (Friend of Erin's) on: Feb 20, 2014

What a wonderful tribute to a woman I never had a chance to meet but have heard many crazy stories about. :) To the Fenton family: my deepest condolences on your loss. May your fond memories of Eileen bring you all comfort during this difficult time. I will gladly go bake a sweet in her honor and wash it down with a frosty adult beverage. Cheers to your gutsy wife, mother and porter and billy chucks granny!! - Posted by: Sarah Roder (Shauna's coworker) on: Feb 20, 2014

These are words that Eileen lived by: Be kind. Work hard. Stay humble. Smile often. Stay loyal. Keep honest. No complaining. Travel when possible. Never stop learning. Be thankful. And love. I will miss you Eileen more than you will ever know. I love you. - Posted by: joy (sister) on: Feb 20, 2014

Eileen you were my rock and soul mate. We spent 42 years together and each one was better than the previous one, it kept getting better and better. Together we fought the battle and it was much harder on you than me because you were the one that had to go through all the hard parts and did it with such courage and strength and it gave me the strength to cope. If I could have changed places with you I would have done it in a heart beat, it hurt me so much to see you go through the pain. I will always love you and forever will miss you. Eileen and I grew up in the Steele Bridge area on neighbouring farms. Remembering the birthday parties our Mother's held as we cousins were growing up. Eileen grew up on the East side of the Bridge over the Whitemud River and I grew up on the West side. Over the years we would see each other at family weddings, reunions, etc. Eileen & I kept in touch via email fairly regularly. I am the keeper of the family and Eileen always liked to have the updates to the family. I will miss connecting with Eileen about the family tree. I remember the excitement when Eileen was adding William to our "tree" Thinking of Chuck, Shauna, Erin and families at this very sad time. - Posted by: Diane Harrington (Cousin) on: Feb 19, 2014

How sorry we are to hear of Eileen's passing. Gusty was an excellent definition of her spirit and attitude towards her tackling her illness. No matter where you met her there was this huge smile and hug awaiting you. She will be missed forever by the family.
