Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Darlene and I were close cousins in our youth. We played together all the time, and went to dances together. Darlene was a very generous person. She paid for several family members' university educations. She also paid for an automobile for another family member. She was always the first person to send a card or flowers. She asked for nothing in return. Darlene was a firm believer in being the best you could be. Darlene was a world traveller, and her work took her to many exotic countries. Darlene had a great laugh, and enjoyed a good story. When her grandmother Mary who (with Darlene's Grandfather James) raised her was ill, and could no longer care for herself, Darlene travelled to Winnipeg and brought her back to live with her and Sabah in Thunder Bay. She cared for Mary for many years until aunty Mary passed away. Darlene was kind, caring and compassionate. She was always interested in family news when I called. The last time I spoke with her just after Christmas, she said we would meet for dinner in the summer in Winnipeg. She did not tell me how ill she really was, and I am really sorry we did not get to have that dinner together. Darlene spoke highly of Sabah, and said how wonderfully he was caring for her. She told me she got a puppy, Misty, before Christmas. She and Sabah sent a picture of this beautiful little dog. She said she chose this adorable dog because the breed likes "old people". She had a great sense of humour. I will miss Darlene dearly. Love, Cousins Marlene (and Gerry) Shuster. - Posted by: Marlene Shuster (Cousin) on: Mar 02, 2014
