Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFREDERICK WILMER CODE Frederick Wilmer Code passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre, at the age of 91, on April 3, 2014. He was born in Winnipeg to Norman and Mary (Hansen) Code, on July 1, 1922. Dad was the youngest of two boys, his older brother, Norman Code predeceased Dad. From a young age Dad loved to sketch and paint anything. He became the youngest member of the Winnipeg Sketch Club at age 11. His talent carried him through to Kelvin High School, where he was offered two full scholarships for Fine Arts. A four year program at the University of St. Louis. And a two year program to the St. Paul (Minnesota) College. However, being 1941 and the lure to serve his country at age 19, found him joining the R.C.A.F. and being shipped off to New York, NY where he studied and trained at the Speary Gyroscope Ins. as a Radar Technician. This afforded Dad to watch many Yankees' games while there. He spent four and one half years total mostly stationed in different locations in England. The war ended and Dad returned to his first job, as an usher at the Capitol Theatre, where his father was the manager for 50 years. A sales agent and importer spotted Dad on the streetcar one day and asked if he'd be interested in sales work. This began a 44 year career as a Manufactures Sales Agent/Importer of Textile products. He married Margaret Dorothy (Ricky) in 1950, and were proud parents of Frederick Jr. born 1957 and Peter born in 1959. We spent a few summers at Falcon Lake, fishing and golfing and enjoyed many summer holidays across Canada and the U.S.A. Sadly, Margaret passed away quite suddenly in 1982 at the young age of 49 years. Thankfully Dad was blessed to meet and marry Marjorie (Graham) in 1984 and Dad was loved by a second beautiful and classy woman. Marjorie got Dad painting again and they spent many hours together at the Forum Art Studio. Sadly Marjorie passed in January 2009 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Dad by this time had moved to the Wellington Retirement Home on Grant Avenue. It was great with Marjorie right next door at West Park Manor. They enjoyed many days at Assiniboine Park with ice cream cones. Dad was a member of the Directors Staff Khartum Temple, Royal Order of Jesters, a Mason and a long time member at St. Charles Country Club. Dad is survived by his two sons, Fred (Candace) and Peter, stepkids Grant, Dori and Doug, as well as many grandkids across the country. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway with Rev. Terry Hidichuk presiding. In Sympathy for Fred, Jr. and Peter Code. I have fond memories of Mr. and the 2nd Mrs. Code as being always cordial, full of life and vigour. They, along with funny looking Gilbert, their dog, treated me and my son, Spencer with the utmost kindness. I was fortunate to be in love with their son, Fred Jr., and he with me, then, and that is how I came to meet the Codes along with his very interesting brother, Pete. I have photos of us that I often admire in the Code's backyard pool at their beautiful Shaftsbury Blvd home. On my graduation day at the New Westminister Cathedral I was delightfully humbled and honoured at the presence of Mr. and Mrs. Code. They always looked so happy together. One Sunday morning many years ago Fred, Jr., Spencer and myself spent a lovely warm sunny morning at the St. Charles Country Club for a yummy brunch buffet sharing smiles and stories for mother's day if I recall. In my eyes Mr. Code was a kind, jovial, soul who gave a lot of his time to assisting those in need with AA. Mr. Code not only had great taste in ladies, having married a beautiful ex Manitoba beauty pageant, he also had great taste in his attire. Young Freddy would always receive lovely clothes from his Dad as gifts during the celebratory occasions. Mr. Code worked as the National Sales Representative for one or two clothing mills out of Montreal. His happy sales side and kindness transferred to his sons. Life goes by quickly, I was young when we met, not so much anymore. Thank you Mr. Code, it was a pleasure meeting you and your wonderful family. May our Creator keep you safe from harm and may he always watch over you with love. And may your spirit be guided toward the light of eternal peace and the force of all good things protect you always. Sincerely and with Love, Violet D`Saint, Fawn-Elise, and Spencer - Posted by: Violet M DSaint (friend) on: Apr 05, 2014
