Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARTHA EVELYN MACGILL (nee DUNN) April 27, 1929 - April 12, 2014 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Martha on Saturday, April 12, 2014, peacefully after a short illness. Left to cherish Martha's memory is her husband Jim, of 61 years; son Andrew (Debra) and grandchildren Alex and Lauren. She is also remembered by sisters Olive (Dave) and Jean of Brandon, Florence (Ted) and Shirley (Earl) of Calgary, Marilyn (Ernie) of Souris; brother-in-law Bob of Pickering, and many nieces and nephews. Martha was predeceased by her parents Evelyn and Oliver Dunn of Alexander; sister Betty, and brothers Harold and Myron. Martha was born and raised near Alexander, Manitoba. She graduated with her RN from Brandon General Hospital in 1950. She married Jim in 1952 and together travelled extensively by way of army postings to Washington, Moscow, Pakistan, Germany as well as Canada. Martha practiced her nursing whenever possible Brandon (Brandon General Hospital and Sanatorium), Glenboro, Washington and Saskatoon. In Winnipeg, Martha worked at Shriners Children's Hospital, the Manitoba Clinic and Deer Lodge Centre before she retired. She was a dedicated nurse, loving her chosen profession while being a full time mother to Andrew and partner to Jim on their various postings. In retirement, Martha enjoyed golf, reading, bridge, spending winters in Florida and especially spending time with, and baking cookies for, her much adored grandchildren Alex and Lauren. She will be sadly missed. A Celebration of Martha's Life will take place on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Army, Navy & Air Force, Unit 283 - 3584 Portage Avenue. She will be interred in Alexander Cemetery later this spring. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff on 3 East of the Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care unit for their compassionate care of Mom over the past five weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Manitoba, or a charity of your choice. Jim, Andrew, Debra, Alex and Lauren We were so sorry to learn of Martha's passing - it is a loss for us all. I will always remember her fondly for her smile and genuine interest in others.
