CARLOS JOSE MACHADO It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Carlos José Machado on June 1, 2014, at the age of 81 years old. Left to remember him are son Mario (Mary), grandchildren Brendan, Kori and Meriah, sister Madalena, brother-in-law Antonio (Isaura) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Carlos was predeceased by his parents, his siblings, Lucilia, Francelina, Adelia and Deonildo as well as his wife Aparecida Ribeiro Ferro Machado in 2001. Carlos was born in Alverca do Ribatejo, Portugal in November 1932. He was the youngest of six siblings and worked from a young age to help support his family during very hard times. Carlos met and married Aparecida in 1958 and the family immigrated to Canada in 1972. Carlos worked for many years as an expert welder in Portugal, France, Mozambique and Canada before retiring in 1997. He enjoyed wine making, gardening and preparing barbecue lunches for his family on Sundays. He will always be remembered as a hard worker and a caring father and grandfather. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Igreja Matriz de Urqueira in Ourém, Portugal. Interment will follow at Cemitério de Urqueira where Carlos will be laid to rest next to his wife, Aparecida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
