WALTER (WALT) WILLIAM NEDOKUS Walt passed away suddenly on Monday, June 16, 2014 in his home in Winnipeg at the age of 61 years. Left to cherish Walt's memory are his life partner of six years, Jody Erlandson; beloved children David (Sydney) and Samantha; sister Anna (Ron) Wiebe and their family. He was predeceased by his father John in 1985 and mother Anna in 2005. Walt was a man of profound intellect who read voraciously and loved to discuss philosophy, spirituality, economics, politics, literature and technology. He told wonderful tales of his childhood in New York, the Philosophy "Play Room" (Lounge) at University of Winnipeg, the trials and triumphs of working in the hotel industry, and later in customer care. Walt was proud of his many achievements as a Toastmaster in the 1980's. He was a self-taught technology wizard and was about to launch a new career as an independent computer consultant. He was happiest when tinkering with his electronic toys or relaxing with Slavoj Zizek's latest book, a scotch, and a good cigar; and he was always delighted to help friends with their computer woes. A fiercely independent thinker, he embraced Buddhist philosophy at age 16 and endeavored to walk the Path of Enlightenment with compassion and good humour. A Celebration of Walt's Life will be led by Sensei Michael Hayashi in the Manitoba Buddhist Temple, located at 39 Tecumseh Street at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2014. Special thanks to the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, the staff at Wojcik's Funeral Chapel and to family, friends and co-workers for their support and comfort, especially Ruth and Aubert LeBlanc, and Thérèse Jasmin. Memorial donations may be made to the Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival www.winnipegfringe.com/ or Craig Street Cats www.craigstcats.ca/. Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • I am so sorry to be reading this, and how long it has been since we last chatted. Walter was a great friend for many years when we lived in Winnipeg. We first met through Toastmasters. He was smart, funny, philosophical, and a true gentleman. - Posted by: Darlene Crone- Todd (Friend) on: May 03, 2025

  • I knew Walter as a good person. He was an interesting Toastmaster and Second Cup friend. - Posted by: Dan (Diplock) on: Aug 18, 2014

  • The Walt-Man and I worked together for a few years and spent a few overnight shifts at the hotel sharing philosophies. Yes, he always had an opinion and looked at the world through a different set of eyes than most people I knew, and that's what I liked about him. He was a student and a teacher. Our paths would cross from time to time on the bus, on the way to work and when we did he always asked about my family and I, about his. He was so proud of his kids. My condolences to his family and the lady in his life. When I heard of Walt's passing it saddened me of course although the very first thing I heard echo in my mind was the words he said he'd sing on top of his lungs all the way out the door of that job he disliked so much, "Free at last, free at last. Oh good God, I'm free at last." That you are Walt-Man. Enjoy sharing your wisdom, we'll miss it down here. - Posted by: Elsie Unrau and Family (Friend ) on: Jul 01, 2014

  • I only had the pleasure of meeting Walter on a few occasions. While I did not know him well, I do know he was a wonderful man as he loved my cousin Jody and made her happy. RIP Walter and thank you for bringing love and joy to Jody's life. - Posted by: Tracy Cook () on: Jun 29, 2014

  • I worked with Walter for 3+ years. He was always a great person to be around. He always keep a positive attitude. My boyfriend makes fudge and Walter had bought some of my fudge. He told me he had to have a piece before he got home as Jody would eat it all and then he would laugh and say he bought it for her. He will be sadly missed.. RIP my friend walter.... - Posted by: linda goulding (co worker) on: Jun 29, 2014
