HARRY PLATTNER Harry passed away peacefully at home on June 28, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was born in Winnipeg July 25, 1927 and predeceased by his parents Esther and Isaac Plattner, brother-in-law Aubie Jacob and sisters-in-law Sophie and Rose Jacob. He is survived by his wife Sybil (Sos), of 63 years, daughter Glori (Adam), grandchildren Robbie Klemke, Rochelle (Ido Raam), great-grandchildren Jada, Ela, Leo and Lea Raam, his dog, Yuki who was always by his side, and by all of his loving nieces and nephews. He attended David Livingston, Aberdeen, St. John's Tech schools and the University of Manitoba where he graduated in 1950 with a B.Sc. and then became a CA in 1959. Harry was a quiet, soft spoken, private and modest man. As an accountant he considered the issues, especially about business and made calculated decisions. He and Sos spent many summers at their cottage on the lake in Gimli and winters in Palm Springs. He was a very devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather, always there with guidance and support. He was always available for friends and family who relied on his experience and expertise. Harry was an avid sportsman and loved fishing, even at Lockport at 3:00 a.m. He would come home to filet the fish, go swimming at the old YMHA (Rady Centre) and then to the office. For many years he won the mile swim at the Y. He loved ice-skating and then figure skating in later years. In Palm Springs he skated with the Desert Blades, always wearing a variety of colourful sweaters. After retiring he again took up bridge and spent many hours studying and reading. He loved following all sports on TV. Harry was an early riser and in the early evening he was ready to sleep, anywhere, anytime. For his 60th birthday, Sos made him a photo album of Harry sleeping, anywhere and everywhere. The funeral was held June 30 at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. Pallbearers were his grandson Ido Raam and his nephews Lanny, Sean, Jonathan and Hart Jacob and Sami Lyons. The family wishes to thank the nurses and aides at Victoria Hospital and the home care and Palliative Care workers who were there for him and Sos at home in the last days of his life. Now you can sleep in peace Harry, love Sos.
