Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySIDNEY SLONIM The family of Sidney Slonim is saddened to announce his passing on June 12, 2014 with his family by his side. Sidney is survived by his children, Roxanne and Ross, his brother Morley, and sister-in-law Lil. He will also be lovingly missed by his nieces and nephews, Shari, Jeff, Dylan, Cory, Marni, Brian, Justin, Jordan and Jamie, and by Pearl's children and grandchildren, Carole, Monty, Shane, Michelle, Lori, Rachel, Molly, Mackenzie and Noah. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Anne, an infant brother, Aubrey, and his first wife, Sheila. Sidney was born on February 24, 1924, and resided in the north end of Winnipeg, graduating from St. John's Tech. In 1942, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served overseas, returning to Winnipeg in 1946. An avid athlete, he excelled in football, bowling, and his greatest passion, curling. Sidney worked as a manufacturer's agent for most of his life, before retiring in 1987. An active member of the Rady Centre, he established "Sid's Group", where he enjoyed the camaraderie of working out with other members. Devoted to maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle, Sidney swam six days a week, and served as a role-model to many. Since the death of his beloved wife, Pearl, in October 2012, his own health slowly declined. He was a loving and devoted husband; father, brother, uncle, and friend. Many thanks to the staff of the Medical Intensive Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital for their excellent care during his final days. A graveside service was conducted by Gerry Daien at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery on June 15. Pallbearers were Brian, Justin, and Jordan Gertenstein, Monty Letinsky, Abe Borzykowski, and Allan Weinshenker. Should friends so desire, donations may be made to the Rady Jewish Community Centre, or the Jewish Foundation.
