Date of Passing: Jul 23, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLILLIAN ADELMAN We are saddened by the passing of our mother Lillian Adelman on July 23, 2014 at the Victoria Hospital. "Lil" was the oldest and last remaining of four siblings, Irv Morris (Rona) Murray Morris (Clarice), Sally Abells (Harvey) and Sybill Morris. The daughter of Louis and Ethel Morris, she was born in Estevan, Saskatchewan and lived there, and in Regina, until young adulthood. Upon meeting Murdock (Mack) Adelman, she fell in love, married him and lived a happy life together until Mack's passing in 2001. Mom and Dad lived for the first 13 years in Kelvington, Saskatchewan, running their department store and starting their family. Daughters Sandra and Francene (Jack Cram) cherish their memories of times with their parents in Kelvington. Our family lived for a few years in Brandon where Mom made many friends; in the past year, Mom happily rekindled a Brandon friendship with a resident at the Simkin Centre where they both lived. A number of years were spent in Moose Jaw, where Dad managed the Army and Navy Department Store. He and Mom raised their daughters, made many friends and participated in community life. Mom was an active member of the Hadassah organization, helping to produce such fundraising events as fashion shows, and bake sales. She participated in the social and cultural life of the Jewish community, as well as golfed and curled with a variety of friends and acquaintances from Moose Jaw. There were several winter holidays in Scottsdale where Mom met new friends as well as visited her sister Sally who lived there. During the time in Moose Jaw, because of the proximity to Regina, Mom became a serious Saskatchewan Roughrider fan, attending many games with Mack. Mom was the consummate fan - she knew all of the statistics and football trivia. In recent years, she shared her interest in particular, with her nephew Larry. As well as football, she loved golf, baseball and curling. She took a keen interest in world events and enjoyed entering into discussions. Mom always wished the best for her daughters and supported us with love throughout our careers and personal endeavours. She was in close touch with her siblings, their spouses and their families and into her final years, she still kept in touch with nieces, nephews, and cousins. She loved to host and attend family events, gracing them with her fabulous cooking and baking. Mom was a "balabusta" - her house was spotless, there was always baking to share, and she had a real sense of style. When Dad retired, they moved to Winnipeg to be closer to their daughters and other family members, and enjoyed a number of "golden years". After Dad's passing, Mom met with the challenges of widowhood applying her tenacious spirit to making the best of things. When the health challenges of the past two years became difficult. Mom took up residence at the Simkin Centre where she lived until her passing. She made many friends amongst staff and residents, adjusting nicely to her new life. The family would like to offer heartfelt thanks to the staff - nursing, maintenance, and health care attendants - for the friendly and caring attention given to our mother. A graveside service was held at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery on July 25 with Cantor Mass officiating. If desired, donations in Lil's memory can be directed to a charity of choice.
