Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNORMA (DOREEN) CARDNO (nee BANKS) On July 26, 2014 Norma Doreen Cardno of Winnipeg, MB, passed away at the age of 82 years. Doreen was born on July 17, 1932 in Winnipeg, MB. Doreen grew up in St. James and graduated from St. James Collegiate. She met Jack at the Manitoba Power Commission, (Manitoba Hydro) where they both worked. They married on September 15, 1956. Doreen is survived by her loving husband Jack; children Scott (Liz) Cardno and Christine (Bruce) Young; grandchildren Jenny (Craig), Alex (Ali) and Zac. She was predeceased by her parents (Robert and Doris Banks), and she is now re-united with the "Brothers Five" Bob, Cliff, Jim, Earl and Don. Doreen was known for her rapier wit and positive outlook. She was active in the community and was famous for her amazing cooking/baking including peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, pizza on a bun, fancy sandwiches to name a few. Her prowess in the kitchen paled in comparison to the values and beliefs she instilled in her children. She worked at Hydro, Snowdon's, K-Mart, Domo Service Centre and Zellers. Mom's favourite place in the world was Grand Beach, where she stayed in the "Granny Cabin" with Grandpa Jack. Doreen left a legacy through her children and grandchildren. She will be missed. A celebration of Doreen's life will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home 1800 Day Street (Transcona). If friends so desire, donations in Doreen's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Flowers will be regretfully declined.

Sorry Jack to hear about Doreen's passing. I came across her obituary googling Cardno ancestry. We seem to have lost touch. Remember when we came to the family reunion in Alonsa and iPhone you and we met at the airport. It always amazes me how we just seem to know each other. Remember Jeanette (Nettie) and Shirley (Cookie) were with me? We lost Nettie to cancer January 2015. And Cookie lost her son Scott in October 2012 and then two months ago her husband Nick. So much sadness. Anyway, I hope this finds you doing all right and I would love to hear from you. Was so sorry to see that Auntie Sam had passed. I know my mom and her went way back. It has been years since I saw her or Uncle Jack, probably my Dad's funeral. I do have a lot of childhood memories of our 2 families. My sincere sympathies to you all. - Posted by: Gaye-Lynn Baker (Ruston) (Daughter of a old friend) on: Aug 04, 2014

Auntie Sam and Uncle Jack were dear friends of my Mom and Dad (Garth and Mavis Ruston. I have fond memories of dropping by their place on Christmas Eve with my family when I was kid. After my Mom passed away Auntie Sam kept in touch with Dad to talk about the old Hydro gang. Those calls meant a lot to Dad. My condolences go out to Uncle Jack, Scott and Christine. Though she is gone let her love surround you and keep her memories close to your heart. - Posted by: Vicki McLarty (Ruston) (Family friend) on: Aug 02, 2014
