AIME HEBERT March 26, 1935 August 2, 2014 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Aime was the only child of Tom and Alma Hebert. He grew up in Dufresne, MB and worked with his Dad on the family farm. As a young man, he went to work as a truck driver for Johnson Trucking in Dufresne and then in Transcona when the business was moved there. It was in Transcona where Aime first met the woman who would be his life-long best friend and wife of 56 years, Irene. Aime had many jobs throughout his life. Along with driving truck (where he earned an award for one million miles driven without an accident), he worked in a gravel pit, as a diesel mechanic, a welder, and he took great pride in building boat trailers at Lund Boats in Steinbach. Lastly, he, Irene and their son Brad opened their own business, Bonded Health & Mobility that he continued to work at until just a few months ago. Aime was a kind and generous man. He and Irene often opened their home and their hearts to those in need of shelter or just a little love. Over the years they fostered 12 children and a few years ago opened their home to foreign students from across Canada and the Far East. Aime always believed in supporting his community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Royal Canadian Legion and The Huntington's Society. He was a volunteer ambulance attendant, and a member of Citizens on Patrol (COPS). He was a scout leader, he volunteered for the local food bank, and the Selkirk Christmas and summer fair parades. Aime took much joy in his yard, flowers and plants and was an avid CB'er with the handle "Wild Canary". In the last year he took great pleasure in building matchstick models. A man of integrity who believed in God, family and community, he leaves his wife Irene, five sons; Pat (Cher), Phil (Doreen), Brad, Greg (Wendy), and Terry (Dawn), 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at Notre Dame Parish, 269 Jemima Avenue, Selkirk, MB at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2014.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • My Dad was Leo Johnson of the 'Johnson Trucking' for whom Aime was working when we moved to Transcona for a brief period. Aime boarded with us and although I was only 11 years old at the time I remember what a really great person he was. I also remember we lived right across the back lane from the Nadeau residence and I remember when Aime met you, Irene and fell madly in love! I also remember our family attending your wedding and what a beautiful bride you were and what a proud and happy groom Aime was. I'm happy for those memories and I'm so sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Flo Johnson Vandekerkhove (Old family friend) on: Aug 07, 2014
