LLOYD WHITE Lloyd White passed away suddenly from heart failure in his sleep on Tuesday, August 5, 2014. He was taken from us much too soon, as he was mentally sharp and engaged in current events and the exploits of his favourite sports teams. Lloyd was born on June 22, 1942 in Winnipeg to parents James and Solange (Sally). He was predeceased by his parents, wife Beverley in 2012, and siblings Walter, Ron, Grace (Gordon), Jeannie (Ken), Frank, and brother-in-law Jack; and is survived by his sister Joanne, sister-in-law Eleanor, daughter Kelly (Bryon), son John (Rosanne), and many nieces and nephews. He met the love of his life, Beverley Franks, when they were very young and they were married in 1963. They were a true duo, and Beverley's death in 2012 after a lengthy illness affected him deeply. Lloyd graduated from high school in 1959 and soon joined the City of Winnipeg, where he worked in various roles until 1972. He made a dramatic career change in 1973, joining Atkins Coring to do underground drilling and excavations. In May of 1976, he began his career with the Province of Manitoba. He became a permanent Sheriff's Officer in 1978, and moved up the ranks to supervisor. He eventually became Jury Coordinator for Manitoba Justice, taking great pride in his work to enact changes in the system that are still in use today. He was diagnosed with a congenital heart valve defect in 1990, and had open-heart surgery in 1991. He returned to work at the Law Courts in September of 1991 and missed only a handful of days in the remaining years of service before retiring on December 31, 2003. Lloyd was a gifted athlete, and was one of Manitoba's top fastball pitchers in his prime with the Winnipeg Mets and City Hydro. After hitting for the cycle and pitching for the win in a playoff game for the Mets, the Free Press dubbed him "The Big Noise", a sweet, sweet nickname we wish we knew about before his passing. He was especially proud and protective of his inner circle - his wife and children Kelly and John and their spouses Bryon and Rosanne. The sparkle in his eye when he was riffing jokes at these gatherings was magical. In the last year, he enjoyed weekly brunches with Kel and Bry at the casino, regular Skype calls with John and Rosanne and outings with brother-in-law Bill Dubas. He loved the Jets (both versions), Canadiens and the Bombers, and hated the Leafs. He also loved dogs, and had great memories of Zumpi, Spinner and Benji. A celebration of his life will be held at Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day Street on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. Winnipeg Jets or Winnipeg Blue Bombers jerseys/colours are welcome at the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Manitoba Mutts Dog Rescue or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. The family would like to make special mention of Dr. Dennis Caners for his dedicated care and friendship over many years. We also want to acknowledge his friends on the early morning shift at the Nairn Avenue McDonald's.
