WILLIAM (BILL) MYKYTIUK August 18, 1924 August 5, 2014 Peacefully, after a short but hard fought battle with dementia. He is survived by his wife Anna, daughters Mary and Barb and close family in Ukraine. Bill was born in the village of Welykyj Klucziw near Kolomyia in Western Ukraine. To escape from the ravages of the Second World War, as a young man he fled thru Poland, winding up in a Displaced Persons camp in Germany and eventually on to Rochdale, England. In 1953 with his wife and infant daughter he sailed the ocean to Quebec City, then onward west by railway having chosen Winnipeg as his new home. Bill worked for CN Rail (Stores Dept.) in Transcona for almost 40 years retiring in 1989. He enjoyed woodworking and built a cottage at Nutimik Lake in the Whiteshell. He retired to Anola, MB for 20 years where he enjoyed puttering around his yard, raising vegetables in his garden and tending to his apple trees and fruit bushes. Whenever you saw Bill in his yard he was always accompanied by one of the many pet dogs the family adopted over the years. Bill along with his wife and daughters was able to return to visit his family and friends in Ukraine on numerous occasions. He was a humble man who lived simply and will be dearly missed. In keeping with his wishes Bill chose to have a private service and will be buried in Transcona Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the staff at Lions Supportive Housing and Lions Personal Care Home for their care, support and compassion these last months. If you so desire donations in his memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society. VICHNAYA PAMYAT
