Charlie was the kindest person we have met. He was always fun and hospitable, interested in an unlimited number of things and facts. Never boring, always willing to help. We were blessed to know him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Pat, Neil and Ross. Ted and Cheryl Bahn - Posted by: Ted and Cheryl Bahn (Family) on: Aug 31, 2014

Pat, Judy & Bill grew up together in the Ottawa Valley. On many of Pat's visits back to Ottawa Valley she spoke of Charlie constantly and was obviously deeply in love with him. Pat, our thoughts and prayers are with you and hope our paths cross again soon. From 1968-1973, I had the privilege of working as a RN at the Winnipeg Children's Hospital. Charlie was Chief Resident for part of that time. One of my favourite memories was when our department (Casualty) won the annual Christmas Skit contest. Charlie played the role of Hansel to Dr. A. Bishop's Gretel. He danced out on stage wearing leather shorts, wide suspenders, and carrying a huge lollypop . The "wicked witch" stood 5 ft.(Dr. Pena) How could we lose! Rest in peace. - Posted by: Joan Fileccia RN,(nee:Trevenen) () on: Aug 26, 2014

"Uncle" Charlie was a dear friend of my mom and dad, Dr. Keith and Norma Christie, and indeed our whole family. For 40 years or so we celebrated almost every Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving at our house with the Fergusons. Christmas especially was wonderful, sitting around the table, wearing those silly crowns from the Christmas crackers and playing "parlour" games after. Charlie loved a great story - whether to tell it, or listen to one. And he had a great laugh. Those were wonderful times for all of us. And let it not be forgotten that he was fiercely proud of Winnipeg. What a guy! - Posted by: Mark Christie (Family Friend) on: Aug 24, 2014

Charlie was a very humble man who gave of himself unselfishly. It was an honor to know Charlie. - Posted by: Dan Trottier (friend) on: Aug 23, 2014

"Who is that tall dark handsome man who just drove a white Jaguar into the parking lot?" I asked my husband. "Oh! that's Charlie Ferguson a resident at Children's he must be on call." he replied Well! the years have flown by and Charlie you were always "on call" The voice and champion of children who suffered and were so betrayed. Thank-you. Rest in Peace Charlie. - Posted by: Rosemary and Farid Shariff (former colleague many years ago.) on: Aug 22, 2014

I will always remember after big storms on the lake. The next mornings while everyone was sleeping but myself and Dr. Charly he would be on his dock me on our deck. He would always look up and say "that was one heck of a storm a Donnie". My reply was always the same "you never saw nothing yet Dr Charly ". This was after every storm in the summers. He never did know what to expect but we did see some wild storms out here. I will miss those morning uninterrupted chats - Posted by: Don kinger (Lake friend ) on: Aug 22, 2014

My condolences to you 'Patsy'. You two are the reason I moved to Winnipeg from New Zealand some 39 years ago. Charlie was my sponsor when I had no credit rating in Canada. - Posted by: Susan Burstow (Patsy's cousin) on: Aug 22, 2014

Charlie Ferguson was a great man, a good man, and a kind man. He was also utterly unpretentious, funny, and -- charmingly – a bit eccentric. Everyone who knew him loved and admired him. He leaves us all with treasured memories, debts of gratitude, and a sense of being honoured to have known him. All my love and compassion go out to Pat, Neil, Ross, and Charlie’s beloved little Ella. - Posted by: Arlene Young (Family friend) on: Aug 22, 2014

I had the honor of meeting this man. Protecting children is the passion we shared. I loved his ease with everyone, no matter the person or the problem, he always treated everyone with respect, even if extremely blunt at times, lol. He will definitely be missed and I am honored to have had the opportunity to have him touch my life as well. - Posted by: Nadine (professional colaterals ) on: Aug 22, 2014

My wife and I were lucky enough to know Charlie for 7 of our 8 combined decades, and his goofball wisdom was a formative influence on our views of right and wrong. Whenever we discuss a moral dilemma, we ask each other "what would Charlie Ferguson do?" His professional accomplishments and tireless efforts to protect children made him a great man. But just as importantly, he was a really good guy: kind, generous, down-to-earth and hilarious. A man so wonderful, we named our baby girl after him. Love you and miss you Charlie. - Posted by: Rob Annandale (Longtime fan) on: Aug 21, 2014

Charlie is a once in a lifetime friend, scholar, humanitarian, thinker, and one of the kindest individuals one could hope to have as a friend. He was a wonderful family man, who loved his family and wife Pat so very much. He always had time to help the ones in need. Charlie loved life, his dog, happiness, helping others and most of all being a great philosopher and world strategist. I will be one of many who will miss him, remember him, and never forget him for the remainder of our time on Charlie's universe. - Posted by: Dr. Ronald Buzahora (Board Directors at The Behavioural Health Foundation, and just great friends) on: Aug 20, 2014

So much to say about this great man and all he has done to help people. I will always remember listening to his stories at the cabin while sipping on a Manhattan that he would make for me. with our malkins jam Balderson cheese and crackers. great memories - Posted by: Dallas Gerbrandt (Family friend ) on: Aug 20, 2014

This is so sad and so shocking. Charlie was definitely one of the good guys. My heart goes out to you, Pat. I never think of Charlie without having a giggle over my next door neighbor asking me for the house painter's number. She had seen Charlie out in our yard during the time Pat & Charlie stayed with us during the flood of '97. He was mixing white paint for the soccer fields and she figured he was a house painter we had hired... Also, he loved pie more than anyone I know... Sweets for a sweet man. - Posted by: Janice Charko (Friend) on: Aug 20, 2014
