GLENN LOEWEN August 20, 1938 - August 23, 2014 Glenn died on August 23, 2014, at the age of 76 years, at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital, Kenora, ON, with his brother Bob and sister-in-law Mary at his bedside. Throughout the last 10 months, Glenn has been lovingly cared for by his brother Waldy Loewen and sister-in-law Gloria. Glenn is survived by one sister: Rachel and her husband Johnny Reimer of Dallas, Oregon; by a foster sister Violet and her husband Cliff Cathcart of Abbotsford, BC; by two sisters-in-law Elsie Loewen of Toronto, ON and Margaret Loewen of Winnipeg, MB; by one brother-in-law Erwin Friesen; by four brothers: Robert and his wife Mary of Steinbach, MB, Raymond and his wife Anne of Hope, BC, LaVern and his wife Marni of Qualicum Beach, BC, and Waldy and his wife Gloria of Kenora, ON; and by many nieces, nephews, friends and acquaintances. Glenn was predeceased by his parents: Abraham and Elizabeth Loewen; by two sisters: Evelyn (George Enns), and Mathilda Friesen (Jake Hiebert); by four brothers Levi, Henry (Edith), Dave (Elvina) and Leslie. Cremation has taken place. Glenn's name is synonymous with teaching piano. He had a God given gift for teaching; piano in his Steinbach years, and E.S.L. in Vietnam, his home away from home for years prior to his Kenora abode. Glenn encouraged his brothers to take accordion, trumpet and violin lessons, and in so doing contributed to bringing music into our lives. We are thankful for the many positive and beautiful influences Glenn has had on our lives. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of our Lord!

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • There was a Vietnamese boy who didn't know much English. He didn't know anything about Charles Dickens, how sweet the taste of watermelons can be, or that some adults can be cool. And maybe this boy would've grown up carrying these things with him, if it wasn't for Mr. Glenn. Mr. Glenn taught me English for a few years when I was a teenager in Viet Nam. But I learned so much more from him. I learned the value of decency, in kindness, in the beauty of small little things like a smile or asking how another person's doing. I continued my education in California and everything Mr. Glenn taught me gave me the fire to push forward and carry on, all the way from public high school to an undergraduate education to working in New York City and now back again in Viet Nam. I owe so much to Mr. Glenn's kindness and lessons. I regret that I wasn't able to see him and talk to him one last time before he passed on, but I read his obituary in Winnipeg Free Press at least once a year to remind myself that he's lived a full life with loving family and friends, and a long list of student's whose lives were completely enriched by his. Thank you for everything, Teacher. With all my love, Chris - Posted by: Christopher Nguyen (Student) on: Mar 06, 2023
