Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCLAUS HARRY HOHNE After a lengthy and courageous battle, with his wife by his side, Claus Harry Hohne passed away at his home in Richmond Settlement, NB on September 4, 2014. Claus was born in Winnipeg, MB on May 9, 1957. He left his home town at 20 years old to join the Canadian Armed Forces where he served his country for 23 years as an MSE OP in Petawawa, Calgary, Lahr - West Germany, CCUNME Golan Heights, Edmonton, Toronto, and Gagetown. After his retirement, Claus and his wife Lynn settled in Woodstock where he worked at Kent Building Supplies until he landed his dream job of greens keeper at the Woodstock Golf and Curling Club. Claus is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Lynn Hohne (Little), his mother Annitta Hohne of Winnipeg, MB brother Bernd (Tanis) of Winnipeg, MB, sisters Marlies (Jim) of Sioux Lookout, ON and Susan (Tom) of Winnipeg, MB, mother-in-law Jackey McGaughey of Woodstock, as well as many nieces and nephews. Claus' four-legged children (Abbie, Andy, Bullwinkle, Diego, Mack, Ziggy, and Vinnie) will miss their "Daddy" dearly. Claus was predeceased by his father Claus Dieter Hohne and father-in-law Leonard McGaughey. Claus had a great love for animals and his home was never without one, two or even five. He volunteered at the Carleton County Animal Shelter for many years and was more than happy to dress as Santa for pet photos at Christmas. Claus' hobbies included curling, golf, wine and beer making, framing and wood working in his workshop. He was also known to enjoy a fine scotch on many occasions. His favourite vacations took place on cruise ships in the Caribbean and Alaska. The family would like to thank the staff of the Extra Mural Program for enabling Claus to remain at home during the last months as per his wishes. This would not have been possible without the outstanding care and services he received through this program. Thank you also to many friends, neighbours, and co-workers for their help and support during the last few months. Claus' immediate family would also like to express their gratitude to Lynn for everything that she did to help Claus through this difficult time. Lynn, it was your fight as much as it was his and you never gave up. Your love and dedication to Claus will never be forgotten. A Celebration of Claus' Life will take place at the Woodstock Golf and Curling Club, 132 St. Andrews Street, Woodstock, NB on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Woodstock Extra Mural Program Service Delivery Unit, Upper River Valley Hospital, 11300 Route 130, Waterville, NB, E7P 0A4 or the Oromocto SPCA, 111 D'Amours Street, Oromocto, NB E2V 0G5. Never forget the fantastic smells of great German cooking next door at the Hohne's even as a five year old. My mom being German was supposed to be a good cook, but Alas she could burn water. Anyway Claus and I spent many days as kids playing GI joes, jumping from sheds, playing till dark in the neighbours dumptruck, but the story I remember most was even though Claus's mom is a great cook, we had to try eating Dog biscuits and Sardines. Go figure. I was fortunate enough to touch base again after forty years this past summer and we Skyped each other a few times and caught up. Like old friends it didn't take long to remember even though he was feeling very tired and withered. My thoughts go out to his wife and family. I'm glad he's not in pain any longer. - Posted by: Conrad Manly (friend since we were five years of age) on: Sep 09, 2014
