SUSAN HEATHER MAGEL (nee LEWICKI) It is with great sadness and love that we announce the passing of Susan Heather Magel (nee Lewicki). She was born to Irene and Mish Lewicki (both deceased) on January 3, 1953 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Many of her life-long friendships began in elementary school, and many more began at Garden City Collegiate, where she graduated in 1971. She earned a BA from the University of Manitoba in 1975, and went on to study dental hygiene, which led to a long career in Winnipeg, Calgary, and finally Vancouver, which was her home for the last 26 years. People gravitated towards her empathy, kindness, and humour, which allowed her to cultivate long-lasting friendships throughout every chapter of her life. Her passions for shopping, travel, reading, and golf were the basis for many of these friendships, but it was her natural charisma and talent for entertaining which leaves the most lasting impression. The time she spent with family and friends will be her legacy. The admirable strength and courage she displayed in her four-year battle with cancer defined her character. Her positivity and determination will serve as an inspiration to everyone who stood by her side. Susan will forever be loved and remembered by Glen, her high school sweetheart, best friend, and husband of 34 years. She will be loved and missed by her sister Melrene Fitzgibbon (Keith), nephews Matthew and Mitchell; brother-in-law Brian Magel (Sue), nieces Charissa and Nicole; sister-in-law Brenda Hofbauer (deceased) (Andy), nephew Trevor and niece Lauren; and many cousins, friends, and of course her beloved Cookie. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the medical staff at Fraser Valley Cancer Clinic and Peace Arch Emergency Department for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Canadian Cancer Society. Please join the family in a celebration of Susan's life at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831 28 Ave., Surrey, BC at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 22, followed by a gathering at Morgan Creek Golf and Country Club.

  • Susan was so easy to love. Her cheeky attitude and love of all things chocolate made us fast friends at work. She kept me sane with her steadfast friendship and inspiring wisdom and I am sure I was not her only disciple. I remember her when I shop she was such a great cook always willing to try a new recipe and most importantly share. I can clearly hear her laugh and see her flossing her teeth at the table in the lunchroom. She was an amazing lady who I was proud to call my friend. - Posted by: Tracy (workmate of 15yrs and most of all friend) on: Sep 18, 2014

  • Dear Glen and other family members, What a beautiful tribute to an amazing woman. My heart is breaking right now, and sharing your pain with this terrible loss. I feel so very blessed to have known Sue, and to have reconnected a few years ago, not only at our reunion, but also in Vancouver at the yearly Pacific Dental conference. With time, may all of your wonderful memories help heal the emptiness you are feeling right now. Please take care. - Posted by: Leslie Strain (Hygiene classmate) on: Sep 16, 2014
