RICK (RICHARD) ANDREWS Unexpectedly, on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, Rick passed away after having a wonderful day of visits with many friends and family. Rick is survived by his wife, Lee-Ellen (Green), his daughter, Amanda and her husband Jonathan (grandsons, Brayden and Hudson), his son, Taylor, Rick's father, Duncan, sisters, Gail and PJ, and his "damn dog" Spirit. Rick was predeceased by his mother, Mickey, this past year. Rick was born in Biggar, SK and stayed there until the family relocated to Kamloops, BC in 1971 where he attended high school. The family was on the move again in 1974 when they relocated to Winnipeg. Although somewhat shy as a teenager, once Rick overcame this, there was no holding him back. He charmed almost everyone he met with his dynamic combination of sharp wit and warm heart. You always knew where you stood with Rick and if he teased you, he liked you. He loved and cared deeply for his family and was one very proud husband to Lee and grandfather to Brayden and Hudson. Rick was employed by the Eastside Group, running the Thrifty Care Rental portion of the business at the time of his passing. Through Eastside and Thrifty, Rick touched many lives - usually with his special brand of humour (insert eye roll here). The majority of people that knew Rick knew of his love of all things marine. Rick and Lee made tons of memories involving some type of boat (and he owned many)....and through boating, made many friends, namely in Winnipeg Beach at Boundary Creek Marina and most recently at Balsam Harbour. Rick just loved sharing this passion for boating with friends and family - whipping Amanda around on a tube, carefully getting Jon up on water skis or letting Brayden steer the jet boat last summer at the cottage to name a few. Rick was also quite a techno-geek...he loved his gadgets. Technology and Rick got along quite nicely, and many of us would turn to Rick to solve our issues - could be to do with our phones, our computers or anything that thought it was smarter than you. Rick could fix it! In fact...Rick could fix anything...he was very talented with mechanical, plumbing and electrical "stuff". A service to celebrate the many happy and memorable moments of Rick's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3A 1P6. Just came across information of Rick's passing, and was very saddened to hear. I hired Rick and worked with him back in the day with McDiarmid Lumber (15 years ago?). He was one of the nicest, smartest and sincerest people I had ever met. Our backgrounds were very similar and that was probably why he and I got along so well. Although we lost touch, I will always remember him as a great listener and a true friend. I'm happy in knowing he had found love again. My condolences. Through the 9 months I worked at thrifty car rental I saw Rick's dedication and passion every day through the 9 am phone calls moving cars around and hearing Rick's joy when we bought new interesting cars for rent. Rick pushed me to be a better person, a smoother negotiatior and taught me how to deal with stress with the job from our fun car rides to Adesa to our disagreements. Rick was always tough but fair he never thought of you as a number, and when he started picking on you and teasing you you would see that he liked you. Mr Andrews though we only spent 9 mths together, our lunch get together and daily talks, you were a wise man and passed way too soon. To all Rick's family and work family I send my thoughts and prayers. The Winnipeg rental car community lost a good man. - Posted by: Sean wojcik (Former employee of rick) on: Mar 23, 2015

I didn't know Rick but have come to know his daughter, Amanda very well through our work together on a volunteer board. I can only imagine how proud he must have been of you Amanda. I am terribly saddened for your sudden and untimely loss. I know from the little I've read that you must have many wonderful memories and I pray you'll hold every one dear and savour them daily in honour of your father. There is little anyone can say at such a tragic time, but know that many care for you and your family and wish to help in any way that is needed. My shoulder is available whenever you may need it. Sincerely, Debra - Posted by: Debra Wutke (Colleague of Amanda's) on: Mar 17, 2015

I met Rick in June of 2014, when I started with Thrifty Car Rental. He always encouraged me to be myself, but he also challenged me to become a better person. He was by far the best manager and boss I have ever had. In an industry that could be stressful at times, he came to work every day full of passion for his job! In the short nine months that I have known him, he changed my life! He was not only a boss, but a friend, and I truly have become a better person because of him. He will be so very deeply missed... - Posted by: Lynn Neufeld (Friend (and employee of Thrifty Car Rental)) on: Mar 16, 2015

Our deep sympathy to all the family. My first memories of Rick are of him being "little brother" to Gail and PJ - kind of in the background with curiosity, watching. Fast forward to very handsome young man, hard working and very giving. While I did not know him well I do know the deep love felt for him by his family and he for them. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Special hugs to Dunc. No words. - Posted by: Maureen Flaherty & Fred Beckwith (Family friends) on: Mar 15, 2015

I met Rick at Golden Door where his mother resided. He would go to visit mom Mickey and was always so friendly and always had a smile on his face. So sorry for his untimely death. He will be missed by his whole family especially his dad Dunc, who always had such nice things to say about him and enjoyed doing things with Rick. May you keep all the wonderful memories close to your heart. - Posted by: Sue Heim (Friend) on: Mar 15, 2015

Our family knew Rick from Biggar, SK, Kamloops BC as well as Winnipeg days as we were long time family friends. Rick marched to his own drummer from his early school days to the present time. His cheerful smile greeted you whenever you entered their home. Just recently on a trip to Winnipeg Rick was able to slip away from work to join some of us at Tim Horton's for lunch where he chose his special salad to eat healthy. He was looking very svelte. Rick's cheerful disposition and welcoming smile made one feel very comfortable and accepted in his presence. One felt like family with Rick. He was a very special person and will be missed greatly by his family and friends. - Posted by: Jeannette Chappell and family (friends) on: Mar 14, 2015
