JOHN FORREST PATERSON Peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer, it is with deep regret that we announce the death in Winnipeg of John Paterson Jr. on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at age 69 years. Johnny was a lifelong resident of Winnipeg. He is survived by his brother Brian (Brian's wife Lise, son Matt and daughter Brianne); Aunt Margaret of Ottawa; and numerous cousins in Winnipeg, Edmonton and Ottawa, all of whom he admired and respected. John was the son of the late John F. Paterson and Helen Frances Paterson (Crowley) of Winnipeg, and grandson of Charles and Molly Paterson (Forrest) and Henry and Mary Margaret Crowley (O'Brien). The Paterson Family were pioneer pulp and paper industry related residents of Norman, Ontario (Kenora) and the Crowleys were garment industry pioneers in Winnipeg. He was always grateful for the friendship and support of his Uncles, the late John and Richard Crowley of Winnipeg, and of His Aunt Margy of Ottawa. John was a lifelong car enthusiast and worked many years as an automotive technician in various River Heights Garages. In his wilder days he was a sure bet in street drag racing events. John attended both St. Paul's and Kelvin High Schools as well as St. Ignatius and St. John Brebeuf grade schools. He completed two years of sciences at The University of Manitoba. In later years he loved to putter with his old pickup truck and help his neighbors with snow and other tasks. He was proud of his niece Brianne and nephew Matt and always helpful to his brother Brian. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in St. John Brebeuf Roman Catholic Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Place with Rev. Fr. Mark Tarrant presiding. Interment will be held in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, 506 Osborne Street, Winnipeg. Many thanks to the fine staff at Riverview Health Centre who made John comfortable in his last days. We thank everyone who would otherwise be kind, but decline flowers. Donations to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul can be made through Brian Paterson.
