ALEXANDER JAMES MCADAM Alex, born in Stonewall, MB on January 31, 1937 passed away Sunday, March 22, 2015 at Riverview Health Centre. Alex was predeceased by father Alex McAdam in 1946, mother Ruth McAdam (Carr) in 1985 and sister Jessie Millar (McAdam) in 2005. He is survived by his close friends and family. He grew up as most boys do in small towns - riding his bike, playing ball and finding mischief. However, his world was turned upside down with the death of his father. Alex left school to work on a farm and eventually landed in Winnipeg working as a salesman for Brooks Equipment. He then returned to school to study Power Engineering. As a young adult he spent much of his spare time working with metal and engines. He built go carts and restored equipment. In the early 1960s he purchased a cottage at Twin Lakes Beach where he spent countless hours adding on and upgrading. He was a very skillful carpenter, brick mason, plumber, and electrician. After he retired from the Federal Government as a Power Engineer, he decided to make the cottage his permanent home. There he continued to build furniture, garden, landscape and day trade. When he was no longer able to manage living alone at the cottage he moved to Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence and then Riverview Health Centre. Alex had a wonderful sense of humour and loved to play pranks. He saw the funny side of life and always had a quick witted come-back. His "toys" were important too, like his skidoo, boat, and quad. A special thanks to the staff at Sturgeon Creek Residence and Riverview Health Centre for the excellent care and special attention they gave to Alex. A memorial service will be held at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway, on Friday, March 27 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Stonewall Cemetery In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
