NAN SMITH Peacefully, on Sunday, May 3, 2015 Nan joined her husband, Maurice Smith (former Sports Editor of the Winnipeg Free Press) whose death preceded hers in 1985, at the age of 98 years. Nan's legacy lives on in her grandchildren, Karen (Mike), Sean, Matthew (Evangelea), Theo and Gala. She also has four great-grandchildren, Paul, Nolan, Mia and Olivia; as well as a great-grandson on the way. In 1917, Annie Nolan McKenzie was born in Perth, Scotland to Alexander and Eliza McKenzie. She shared her childhood with her siblings William, Duncan, John, David and Isabella. Nan met and married Maurice in 1939 and immigrated to Winnipeg, where she was very active in the community of Silver Heights. They had two children, Maureen (Marquardt) and Douglas. In compliance with Nan's wishes, no formal Funeral Service will be held. Many thanks to the wonderful nurses and staff at Beacon Hill Lodge, especially Nancy Merkley and Virginia. In addition, a special thank you to Nan's niece, Frances Rowlin for the many visits she made so cheerfully. Those wishing to remember Nan may do so with a donation to a charity of their choice.
