MAUREEN MCDONALD It is with heavy, but loving hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, sister, aunty, gramma/nana and our best friend - Maureen McDonald at the age of 68. After a courageous and valiant 12 year fight with cancer, we lost our beloved mom, May 14, 2015. Left to cherish her memory is her lifelong husband and best friend Bryan. Together, for nearly 50 years, Mom and Dad shared a love and friendship that is rarely seen in one's lifetime. She leaves behind her three loving daughters, Arleen (Larry), Wendy (Gord), and Lianna (Paul), special grandchildren Brady, Riel, James, and Georgia, close siblings, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Maureen was born on February 5, 1947, in Winnipeg. She was the eldest of seven children, born to Helgi and Kathleen Freeman (nee Hunter). She was predeceased by her parents, and son Kyle. Mom will be forever remembered as the centerpiece of our family. Her kindness, her ability to make everyone feel special and important has left a remarkable footprint on the lives of so many. She taught us all lessons of love, thoughtfulness, charity and compassion. Mom understood the importance in finding the goodness and best in those around her, celebrated the simple things, yet always took the time to explain the vicissitudes of life. Her wisdom, her grace and her generous personality will be terribly missed by everyone around her. A private service of remembrance will be held for Mom with her immediate family. We would like to thank Dr. Harris and the wonderful staff at the Grace Hospital for their great care. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to The Canadian Centre for Child Protection or CancerCare Manitoba.

I am so sorry for the McDonald and a Freeman families. I have known Maureen since elementary school, attending school with her sister Darlene, and Bryan was my mentor as I began a career coaching. Maureen was always supportive of my stealing Bryan away for softball. Always smiling, always giving, proud of her children and their accomplishments. Maureen will be missed. - Posted by: Tony Foti (Friend) on: Jun 27, 2015

Dear Byran, Arlene and Dar, I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of this wonderful human being. Growing up I was always at Helgi and Kathleen's house. I played cribbage with them even if their biological kids weren't home; I felt like part of the family..they never kicked me out!!! I imagine Maureen would have let me move in as well; the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! Bryan, I admire you as a wonderful husband and coach of course. The softball games, the team parties are etched in my heart. I loved watching you love and listen :) to your wife...something we don't see nearly as much anymore. May the comfort of your family sustain you thru this difficult time. With deepest sympathy, Heidi (Bauer) - Posted by: Heidi (friend) on: May 24, 2015

Bryan and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Maureen was a very special lady. She was so kind, patient, friendly and generous. I worked with her directly and indirectly for many years, she in a supervisory position to me. I can't imagine the loss you feel. Please know she will always be remembered lovingly by many. - Posted by: Tammy Davis ((former co-worker)) on: May 23, 2015

Very sorry to hear of your loss Brian and family. My sisters and I loved Maureen as a boss when we worked at John Blumberg and as a neighbour at Twin Lakes Beach 15 or so years later. I'm very happy that my girls got a chance to meet Maureen and hold a memory of the peanut butter cookie lady. Our sincerest condolences. - Posted by: Cheryl Hill (nee Clark) (Friend) on: May 22, 2015

Her obituary says it all. She was an excellent supervisor, but more importantly she made us feel part of a team and let us know there was much more to life than work. She always spoke of everyone in her family so fondly and proudly. RIP Maureen, and condolences to you Bryan and your family. - Posted by: KATHRYN STEPHEN (EX CO-WORKER - SAFEWAY) on: May 20, 2015
