PHYLLIS MARGARET DIXON The world lost a beautiful woman, Phyllis Margaret Dixon on May 25, 2015 at the age of 92. Phyllis is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Barbara (Keith), Ruth (Joe) and Janice (Jim). She was a devoted grandmother and much loved by her four grandchildren, Jennifer (Damian), Bren (James), Dana (Kyle) and Alexandra (Alec); and by her three great-grandsons, Zachary, Caleb and Wyatt. Mom will be missed every day by her family, who were her pride and joy. Our Dad, Richard Max Dixon, predeceased Mom in 1990, after 39 years of marriage. Mom was born in Toronto on March 28, 1923, the first daughter of a family of four children. She was orphaned as a young child and was raised by her great-aunt and uncle. Mom moved to Winnipeg in 1944, when she was offered a job with the Federal Fisheries Department. She treasured her time with the Fisheries. Being a mother to her three daughters was the most important role in her life, and she was always there to support and encourage them; but even with three girls at home, Mom still made time to advocate for reproductive rights and volunteer for various organizations. Mom was a lifelong feminist, who raised her daughters to stand up for others and against injustices. She truly was ahead of her time, acting as a mentor and role model for all who knew her. She was an active member of Y Neighbours, taught life skills to disadvantaged women, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and the Brownies. She was an active member of the MacDonald Youth Service's Ladies Auxiliary and became President of the Board of Directors. She is the only Honourary Lifetime Member of MacDonald Youth Services to this day. Mom had an endless desire to help others that will never be forgotten. In our River Heights neighbourhood, everyone knew that Phyllis Dixon would be there to help them whenever they needed support. She and Dad enjoyed golfing at Breezy Bend Country Club and sitting together at night enjoying a bowl of ice cream. Mom was a very special person. She will remain present in our hearts and will continue to inspire those who loved her. To respect Mom's wishes, there will be no funeral. Cremation has taken place. Ruth and Barb would like to thank Janice for her tireless care of Mom over the last decade. Condolences can be sent to 9 Pleasant Bay, Winnipeg, MB R2K 0C9. In lieu of flowers, please donate to MacDonald Youth Services online at: www.mys.ca or call 204-477-1722.
